Smoke Curved Ribbon on Marble Resin Sculpture - 81cm, a polished smoky grey-brown S-shaped form on a black marble base, shown against a plain light background.
Smoke Curved Ribbon on Marble Resin Sculpture - 81cm $2,42900
Description

A smoky ribbon rising from a narrow foot in a single S and rolling over at the head. The material runs a warm grey-brown, darkest through the fullest part of the curve, and the whole surface is polished. It is set on a square block of polished black marble, which is part of the piece.

A Line That Has No Back

A curve drawn on paper has a right way round. A curve made solid does not, and that is the difficulty here rather than the shaping. Walk around this piece and the S reverses, opens, closes and at one point flattens to a bar, and every one of those is a view someone will have. There is no back to hide a compromise in. So the section is turned as it rises rather than held flat to one plane, which means the ribbon presents an edge to you from wherever you stand and never its full width. The flat bar view, which is the one that kills a piece like this, only exists for a few degrees.

At 81cm on its stone it reads as a full-height object on a console or a sideboard, or as a floor piece on a low plinth. Give it room to be walked past rather than a niche, since the turn is the whole of it. The polish picks up whatever is in front of it, so a cluttered opposite wall arrives on the surface; a plain one lets the smoke in the material show, which is what the colour is for. Keep the approach to it open.

The Curve, the Finish, and Delivery

Plan for 3–4 weeks on a standard piece and 5–6 weeks on a bespoke commission. The S is drawn tighter or drawn out, the head is rolled further or left open, and the smoke is lightened toward clear or deepened toward brown. A frosted version is made and is a matt object of the same line, which loses the depth of the material and gains the edges. It is also cast at other heights, including a tabletop one. It travels upright in one braced case with the head sleeved and the marble flat beneath, and two people lift it by the foot. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A line drawn in three dimensions is organic sculpture; the smoky body is resin sculpture; and a piece read in profile is indoor sculpture.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
