Description

A horse's head is carved as a bust, the muzzle dropped and both ears pricked. The nostril is flared and the eye open beneath a defined brow. The mane is cut in long combed grooves sweeping back from the crest down the near side. The neck is cut off cleanly and seats onto a stepped square plinth. White marble with visible grey banding through muzzle, cheek and neck alike.

A Neck Cut Off Square

What separates a bust from a broken statue is the cut at the bottom of the neck, and it is the single most exacting surface on the piece. It must be dead flat and dead square to the plinth, because any error shows twice over: the head tilts, and the joint line reads as a gap. It must also be a deliberate-looking termination rather than a fracture - a clean plane, sharply arrised where it meets the modelled neck, with no rounding and no chamfer to soften it. So it is sawn and lapped flat rather than carved, checked against the plinth face with a straightedge, and cut BEFORE the head above it is finished, so that the whole modelling of the head can be set true to a datum that already exists.

At 60cm and 126kg this is a piece for a surface rather than for a floor, and two people can carry it there. At 60cm this belongs on something rather than on the floor - a table or a plinth. A console, a hall table, a pier cap, a broad sill, a low plinth, a library shelf that will take the weight. Indoors is where it does best: the grey banding through the muzzle and cheek is the most interesting thing about the stone and it wants seeing from a pace away, which is not how anything in a garden is looked at. It reads best in three-quarter view rather than in strict profile, where the dropped muzzle and the combed mane are both in play.

Sixty Centimetres Wants a Surface

Ten to twelve weeks, the shortest lead time in the range. Cutting the neck off cleanly and square is what makes a bust read as a bust and not a fragment. The plinth is dressed and the neck plane sawn and lapped flat and square to it. The head is then roughed to that datum, muzzle and jaw first, the ears held as stubs. Eye, nostril and brow wait until the head's planes have stopped moving, and the combed mane grooves are struck at the very end, sweeping back off the crest. Neither the bust nor its stepped plinth carries a pin, a dowel or any filler. Only 126kg, a two-person lift, bedded onto a prepared pad or set on any firm shelf. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Small carvings are few among animal sculptures, and desk-scale work sits in indoor sculptures.

  • Sculptures under 50cm — shipped by air freight. Typical delivery 1–2 weeks after production is complete.
  • Sculptures 50cm and above — shipped by sea freight. Typical delivery 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

For larger sculptures where faster delivery is needed, air freight is available at additional cost — contact us before ordering for a quote.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

We accept 30-day returns on sculptures in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Bespoke and custom-commissioned pieces are non-refundable once production has started, as they are made specifically to your specification.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
