Rust Brown & Green Open Hull Boat Metal & Acrylic Sculpture - 160cm $10,66300
Description

A boat with a hull of metal in a rust-brown, weathered finish, drawn long and shallow with pointed ends and cut open along its sides in irregular windows. It is packed with upright slats of acrylic, some green right through and some clear with green edges, that show through the windows and rise in blocks above the rail, like a cargo of glass. It is raised on two short posts over a black marble base, and the piece lights.

A Rusted Hull Loaded With Green Slats

The rust finish gives the hull the look of an old working boat, and the cargo of green slats gives it the opposite, something clean, bright and new. The slats are stood in blocks and left to rise unevenly above the rail, so the load looks heaped rather than packed, and through the windows in the sides they read as panes of green light. The hull is kept plain and dark so the colour belongs entirely to the cargo, and the posts lift it clear of the marble, which makes it seem to float.

It is long, so it wants a long surface: a sideboard, a console, a long cabinet or a table, with the windows lined up to the viewer. Keep it at about eye level or a little under, so the slats are seen through the sides as well as from above. Light from behind or from a window makes the green glow through the hull. It suits a room with dark wood, stone or metal.

Hull Finish, Cargo Colour and Delivery

Work on a bespoke commission runs to 5–6 weeks, on a standard piece to 3–4. Other patinas are possible, bronze-toned, black or an antiqued gold tone, and the slats come in teal, amber, blue or clear as well as green. A clear cargo reads as ice in an old boat and lets the rust do the talking. It is packed in one long crate with the slats secured, and the boat is lifted by its hull from beneath, never by the rail, the rods or the slats. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A rust-brown hull cut open in windows and loaded with green-edged slats ties together our metal sculptures, our acrylic sculptures and our organic sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
