Red Fighting Fish on Lines - 84cm, a translucent red resin sculpture with flowing fins suspended on thin lines against a plain white background.
Red Fighting Fish on Lines - 84cm $3,24000
Description

A fighting fish hung on fine lines, its fins spread wide. Behind a short, deep, scaled body the fins open into three separate sheets - tail, anal fin and a dorsal standing up above the back - and each is combed with its own ridges. The resin is a saturated translucent red, deepest through the body. This is the left-hand fish of a pair: the two are made to hang facing each other, and the price here is for this one.

One Fish of a Facing Pair

A fish made to hang beside another has to be composed against its partner rather than on its own. The two are set out together, and this one is turned a few degrees off the plane of its fins so that the pair read as two animals in the same water rather than as a mirror trick; the eyes are set so both look inward at the same point. The fin sheets are the long work: every ridge has to run from root to edge in one go, since a ridge restarted midway leaves a step that a low light finds at once; the spacing is fixed at the root and carried outward.

Hung as a pair, the two want generous air between them and a wall or window behind: the well of a staircase, a tall room, a long window, a corridor with a view down it. Hang them at slightly different heights and turned toward one another. Light through the fins is what the red is for; under a solid ceiling lit from above it goes to a dark outline. Fix into a joist rather than plasterboard, and leave enough line for the piece to turn slowly.

The Pair, the Colour and What Arrives

Build times separate standard from bespoke: 3–4 weeks against 5–6. The right-hand fish is made to match, so a facing pair can be ordered together. The resin is made in this red, in an amber, in a green or colourless, and a solid opaque fish is offered where it should read as a shape against the light. Fin spread is open, and a stand can be made for it where hanging is not possible. Sizes run up to something that fills a stair well. It arrives with each fin sheet packed against a shaped former and the lines coiled apart; carry it by the body. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

The left fish of a facing pair belongs with our animal sculptures; three combed fin sheets lead to our figurative sculptures, and a fish that turns slowly on its lines joins our organic sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
