A square column in red, its four faces alternating between plain polished ground and panels cut with an engraved figure. Red through the whole body, deepening where the engraving cuts into it and palest across the plain faces. Nothing is supplied underneath. The foot is cut flat and the column stands on the shelf itself.
Machining a block rather than casting one is what lets a plain face and a cut panel sit on the same object, since both are that one body worked to two different depths. The panels are set on alternate faces so the column is never plain on two sides at once. Engraving a tinted body removes material rather than adding anything, so every cut line reads paler than the face around it and the drawing is made of absence. The plain faces are polished and the engraved panels are left as cut, so one column carries two surfaces.
A desk or a study shelf suits it, at the distance from which the engraving is actually legible. A pale ground at its back. Red against a dark wall closes the engraving up completely. Light raking across the panels is what fills the cut lines; light square onto them shows almost nothing. It reads as a red column from the door and becomes a drawing at arm's length.
Most pieces are standard and take 3–4 weeks; a bespoke commission takes 5–6. Say the word and the engraving is carried round the whole column, the red is exchanged, or the piece is cut at another height. Carry the engraving round and the plain faces disappear, so the contrast the piece is built on goes with them. One crate and nothing to assemble at all. One person. It is dense for its size and that is all there is to know. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.
A red column engraved on alternate faces stands in our indoor sculptures; its straight edges and flat panels suit our contemporary and modern sculptures, and the machined body joins our resin sculptures.

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.
Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.
Production time is separate from delivery time.
Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.
Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.
All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.
Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.
For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.
Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.
For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.
If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.
Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.
To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.
Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:
Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
If you have questions about shipping, customs, delivery timing, or anything else before you order, our team is here to help. Contact us via WhatsApp, email, or phone, and we'll respond within 24 hours.
