Description

A winged horse springs forward from a bank of carved cloud, forelegs raised and head turned down. It wears a bridle, the mane is cut in short flame-like locks and the tail streams out behind. Both wings sweep back in long tiered feathers, with a second lesser pair set at the chest. Beneath it the cloud is cut as rounded lobes gathered about spiral volutes, more emblem than weather. The whole stands on a thin rectangular slab. White marble with a faintly warm cast, soft grey veining through body, cloud and slab.

A Wing Is a Sail of Stone on One Edge

A wing is the most exposed thing a carver can be asked for. It is wide, it is thin, and it is held on one edge only - which in stone means every kilo of it is trying to snap the shoulder it springs from. This piece asks for two pairs. The large pair is roughed as thick slabs and left that way for months while the body beneath is brought down, because a finished wing on an unfinished animal is a wing waiting to be knocked off. Both are then thinned in alternation, never one to completion before the other, so the shoulders never carry a light wing on one side and a heavy one on the other. The feather tiers are laid out from the shoulder outward and cut last of all, and the lesser chest pair is left until the large ones are done and out of reach of the mallet.

A leaping animal wants somewhere to leap towards. At 250cm nothing in the range stands higher, and the wings are far above the eye. That height is not incidental - the cloud bank lifts the horse clear of its slab, so the whole design assumes the viewer is below and looking up along the underside of the body. Give it a forecourt, a turning circle, the head of a drive, the centre of a wide lawn: somewhere it can be approached and walked around, because the wings read from behind as well as from the side. What it will not tolerate is a wall close behind it, which flattens both pairs of wings into the background and throws the whole silhouette away.

Composed to Be Looked Up At

Twenty-six to twenty-eight weeks, the longest in this tranche. Reading the block for its warm drift decides which face carries the wings, and that comes before any cutting at all. The cloud bank is blocked as a solid mass and the slab dressed beneath it, then the horse roughed above, barrel and haunches first, the raised forelegs held as heavy stubs. The head and the flame-cut mane follow. Both wing pairs are thinned in alternation and their feather tiers cut last, the chest pair after the large ones. The cloud lobes and volutes are hollowed at the very end. Horse, cloud bank and slab take no pin, no dowel and no filler at any point. Some 9,118kg between horse and cloud bank, craned in two lifts onto a poured concrete foundation. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Mythical beasts recur through animal sculptures, and the very tallest work under large garden statues.

Every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of destination.

  • Sculptures under 50cm — shipped by air freight. Typical delivery 1–2 weeks after production is complete.
  • Sculptures 50cm and above — shipped by sea freight. Typical delivery 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

For larger sculptures where faster delivery is needed, air freight is available at additional cost — contact us before ordering for a quote.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

30-Day Returns

We accept 30-day returns on sculptures in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

To start a return, contact us within 30 days of receipt. Return shipping for change-of-mind returns is at the customer's cost.

Bespoke and custom-commissioned pieces are non-refundable once production has started, as they are made specifically to your specification.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
