Yellow Blooms and Bamboo Aboard a Dragon-Headed Boat

The boat is the sculpted part, made by hand in fibreglass and finished so that the head and the spines stand out paler and brighter than the darker scales of the hull. The head is modelled in detail, with a ridged brow, an open mouth and a mane swept back along the neck, while the scales are kept shallow and even, so they read as texture and leave the arrangement to carry the colour. The arrangement is built around the green canes and bound bundles of split cane, which loop high above the hull and give the piece its height and movement, with the foliage and the yellow flowers filling the spaces between.

At its length this is a piece for a large space: a hotel lobby, the entrance of a restaurant, a spa reception or a long gallery, standing on the floor or on a broad, low platform, where the dragon's head can be met at the front and the arrangement seen from the side. A dark or a pale stone floor suits the grey hull, and warm light from above brings up the yellow of the flowers. Indoor use only.

The Hull Finish, the Flowers and Delivery

Every standard piece is made in 3–4 weeks, and every bespoke commission in 5–6. The hull can be finished in gold, bronze, black or a deep red lacquer colour; the arrangement can be made up in other flowers and colours, or left out so the boat stands on its own, and the length of the boat can be altered as a bespoke commission. The arrangement comes with the boat. It travels in a long fitted crate with the head, the spines, the tail and the canes protected, and it is carried by the hull at both ends, never by the head or the tail. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A dragon boat brimming with flowers and bamboo belongs among our organic sculptures; its fibreglass hull places it with our fibreglass sculptures, and the lobbies and restaurants it suits fill our indoor sculptures.

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For all orders delivered worldwide, all customs duties, import taxes, and applicable local clearance fees are fully included in the purchase price. We manage and settle these charges on your behalf, ensuring you will not incur any additional fees upon arrival.

Please note that this policy excludes shipments delivered to Switzerland, as well as any individual orders where an exclusion is explicitly stated prior to purchase; in such instances, local customs charges and import taxes remain the responsibility of the customer.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
