Orford Gold Abstract Sculpture - 70cm, a fibreglass ribbon in a glossy metallic gold finish curling across a black rectangular base, shown against a plain light grey background.
Orford Gold Abstract Sculpture - 70cm $1,22900
Description

Orford is an abstract sculpture in fibreglass, a glossy, warm-toned ribbon folded into a deep trough and set on a black rectangular base. The ribbon dips at its centre, rises on either side through a pair of rolled folds and then flattens out into broad, upswept ends that reach well beyond the base, so the whole form sits poised like a length of silk lifted by its corners.

A Folded Ribbon Lifted at Both Ends

Everything here depends on the folds looking soft. The ribbon is modelled as if it were cloth, with rounded rolls where it doubles back on itself and a slight sag through the middle, and its edges are kept thin so the form reads as a single sheet rather than a solid mass. The gloss helps, sending highlights along the crests of the folds and letting them fade into the hollows, so the surface seems to shift as you walk past. Below it the black base is plain and squared, a quiet block that leaves the colour and the curves to do the work.

At this size Orford belongs on a sideboard, a console or a wide shelf, or on a desk in a study, where its outline can be read from the side as well as from the front. Its long, open shape works along a surface rather than tucked into a corner, and a plain wall behind it, pale or dark, shows off the line of the upswept ends. A lamp set to one side will catch the gloss along the folds. Indoor use only.

Other Finishes, a Facing Pair and Delivery

The standard build is 3–4 weeks and the bespoke build 5–6. The ribbon can be finished in a bright silver, a dark bronze tone, black or white, or in a matt colour chosen for the room, and the black base can be changed for white or a stone effect. Two can be made to face one another from either end of a long sideboard, and a bespoke commission can produce the piece at another size altogether. It travels boxed and padded, the upswept ends protected first because they are the most exposed points, and it should always be picked up by the base rather than by the ribbon. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A ribbon folded as softly as cloth sits among our abstract sculptures and our organic sculptures, with more pieces sized for a sideboard or console in our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For all orders delivered worldwide, all customs duties, import taxes, and applicable local clearance fees are fully included in the purchase price. We manage and settle these charges on your behalf, ensuring you will not incur any additional fees upon arrival.

Please note that this policy excludes shipments delivered to Switzerland, as well as any individual orders where an exclusion is explicitly stated prior to purchase; in such instances, local customs charges and import taxes remain the responsibility of the customer.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.

Two large, black bear-shaped sculptures stand indoors near a window with a view of a yard. One sculpture is in the foreground with its back to the viewer, and the other faces forward, creating a mirrored effect. Trees and a chair are visible outside.
