Orange Opening Twin-Lobe Shell Resin Sculpture, 69cm, with glossy amber lobes on a black base, shown against a plain white background.
Orange Opening Twin-Lobe Shell Resin Sculpture - 69cm $3,84500
Description

Two full lobes rise from a short, round orange stem and open away from each other at the top, like a shell parted along its hinge. Each shows a broad, smooth inner face of paler amber within a thick rim, the left one drawn up into a hooked point and the right one a plain oval. One orange fills both lobes and goes red where the wall doubles back on itself at the inner edges. The stem rises from the centre of a black marble block, which is included.

Where a Bowl Becomes a Sculpture

Two lobes opening upward make a vessel that cannot hold anything, which is the point at which a bowl becomes a sculpture. Opened this far the lobes could not hold anything even if somebody tried, and the piece is easier to read once that is settled. What it offers instead is the two inner faces, smooth and pale and turned toward each other across the opening, the hooked point on one side answering the plain oval on the other. A deep polish lets each face carry its highlights in long runs down the curve.

A sideboard or a console is the place for it, because the piece opens upward and wants to be seen from just below the rim. A white wall suits it. The orange is strong enough to need nothing else. Backlighting turns the whole thing red; light from above keeps it orange and picks out the two inner faces. At this width it reads from the door, and the fact that the lobes are separate is the second look.

Opening the Lobes, and Getting It In

Making a standard piece takes 3–4 weeks, and making a bespoke one 5–6. The lobes are opened wider apart, the orange is run toward amber, and the block is made in white marble. Open the lobes and the inner faces turn further toward the room, so that both show from across it. The inner faces can also be left frosted while the outer walls stay polished. The piece is lifted by the stem and the thick curve of the lobes just above it, never by their rims. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Two orange lobes opening from one stem like a parted shell rest among our organic sculptures, our resin sculptures and our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
