Description

A low grave ledger carved as an open book, the two leaves opening from a shallow spine with a pale cross standing proud of the left page. The green kerb surround is not included.

Open Book Ledger With a Cross Cut Proud

The cross is the reason this is not a simple slab. It is left standing above the page rather than sunk into it, which means the whole face around it has to be dressed down to leave it proud, and any slip takes the cross with it. That work is done before the spine is cut, while the block is still heavy enough to hold steady. The stone is a blue-grey marble, and the pale cross is worked from the same block rather than inlaid, so nothing can lift or stain at the joint.

A ledger sits flat and low, so it suits a lawn section where an upright is not permitted, a cremation plot, a garden of remembrance, or the corner of an existing kerb on a family grave. Bed it dead level or it will settle and hold water along the spine. Burial authorities set their own limits on ledger size and finish, so check theirs first.

Setting a Small Ledger on a Plot or Kerb

Six weeks. The cross is cut and the page around it dressed down before the spine is opened, because a slender open book will not take that pressure once the two leaves are free. The page block and its stepped edges are worked last. Both pages reach you entirely uncut, ready for a name, dates and any wording in a lettering style of your choosing, or left plain if a mason near you is doing the work. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops. Around 27kg, so two people can set it, on a level bed of sharp sand or a thin slab.

Other ledgers and tablets sit in headstones and memorials, and the stone itself under marble headstones.

Production Time

Every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of destination.

  • Sculptures under 50cm — shipped by air freight. Typical delivery 1–2 weeks after production is complete.
  • Sculptures 50cm and above — shipped by sea freight. Typical delivery 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

For larger sculptures where faster delivery is needed, air freight is available at additional cost — contact us before ordering for a quote.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

30-Day Returns

We accept 30-day returns on sculptures in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

To start a return, contact us within 30 days of receipt. Return shipping for change-of-mind returns is at the customer's cost.

Bespoke and custom-commissioned pieces are non-refundable once production has started, as they are made specifically to your specification.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
