The Monumental Classical Recumbent Lion Bronze Sculpture stands 190cm tall and commands immediate attention: a vast guardian lion in full recumbent pose, forelegs extended, head raised, and mouth open in a silent roar that reads with authority across any scale of space.
This sculpture is cast using the traditional lost-wax process, which preserves every nuance of the original model in the final metal. The mane is the centrepiece of the carving work: individual strands are rendered in flowing, layered detail, building a sense of naturalistic weight and movement that flat casting cannot achieve. The body surfaces are smooth and tightly finished, creating a deliberate contrast between the controlled mass of the torso and the textured vitality of the mane. The dark black-brown patina has been applied by hand and sealed throughout, giving the bronze a depth of tone consistent with the finest public monument bronzes. The lion is presented on a wide, stepped rectangular granite plinth, pale grey in tone, which anchors the composition and provides the proportional base the scale demands. Together, the bronze and granite palette reads cleanly against stone, render, marble, and mature hardscape alike.
At 190cm and 4,200kg, this is a piece conceived for significant architectural settings: the forecourt of a country estate, the entrance to a civic building, a formal garden axis, or a monumental interior atrium. The deep oxidised finish holds equally well in full outdoor exposure and controlled interior environments, requiring no special treatment beyond periodic cleaning in open-air installations.
Patina options include natural mid-brown, verdigris green, polished warm gold, and the deep black-brown shown here. The scale can be adjusted to suit your specific site requirements, from a reduced version for a formal interior to an even larger format for civic or commercial contexts. If you are considering a paired flanking installation or have a specific commission in mind, contact us before ordering and we will guide the process from the outset.
