Mirror & Blue Folded Column Resin Sculpture (186cm) with silver mirrored base folds rising into clear blue folds, set on a black marble plinth against a plain light background.
Mirror & Blue Folded Column Resin Sculpture - 186cm $4,11700
Description

One ribbon folded back on itself over and over up a vertical, mirrored through the first folds and clear blue through those above. Mirror silver holds the folds at the foot and a clear blue fills the ones above, so the column changes state halfway up. A square black marble plinth is supplied, and the column stands directly on it.

A Body That Changes State Halfway Up

Half-mirrored and half-clear, the same argument runs both ways at once: the folds at the foot borrow the room and the ones above let it through. Putting the change at a fold rather than across a face is what makes it read as one object: a line drawn mid-panel would look like two pieces joined, and a fold is a place the eye already expects something to happen. Half the mass gives light back and half lets it through, which asks two different things of the same resin and is why the change sits at a fold. Polished throughout, so the silver reads as reflection and the blue as depth.

A hall, an atrium or a wide landing, on the floor and clear of furniture. A plain ground behind it, because the blue half will take up whatever is there and the silver half will show it twice. Light from one side runs down the silver and stops where the blue starts, which is the whole effect. From the door the silver carries first, and the blue separates from it at about four paces.

Moving the Change, and Getting It In

Every standard piece is made in 3–4 weeks, and every bespoke commission in 5–6. The change is drawn further up the column or further down it, the blue is deepened, and a shallower plinth is cut. Move the change higher and the silver has to be deepened, since the top of the column carries less of it to work with. Plinth first, set down and levelled, then the column lowered onto it. Two people throughout. Two people, hands on the folds nearest the foot and gloved for the silver. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A folded column changing state halfway up stands in our indoor sculptures; its sharp, repeated folds belong with our contemporary and modern sculptures, and the blue carried above the silver joins it to our resin sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
