Leaping Dolphin on a Wave Marble Statue - 180cm $26,98500
Description

A dolphin leaps steeply from carved water, the body arched almost upright. The head is up and the beak open, one pectoral fin swept back and the flukes dropping into the water beneath. Tall combed crests carry rows of rounded foam bosses, hollowed and undercut behind. The wave rises to a rounded foot. Each version has its own wave block, and one carving is supplied. White marble crisply finished, grey veining stronger through the wave than the body.

Cutting a Mirror Image

A mirrored pair is not two copies of one carving, it is two carvings that have to be wrong in exactly opposite ways. Every measurement is taken twice, in opposite hands, and the carver has to work against his own habits: the hand that naturally leads on one animal has to follow on the other, and the passes that come easily on a left-leaning body are the awkward ones on a right-leaning one. The test is the pair seen together, and it is unforgiving - a difference of a degree in the angle of the leap, or a centimetre in the height of the beak, is invisible on either piece alone and glaring when they face each other. So neither is finished until both can be stood side by side and compared.

A steeply leaping animal that leans to one side is not a centrepiece - it is half of an arrangement, and it is composed to have its mirror image opposite it. At 180cm the beak of each animal reaches head height, one leaning either way. That makes it a piece for flanking: either side of steps, a gateway, a pool, a doorway, the head of a walk, the ends of a terrace. One alone works where it can lean into a space rather than out of it - at the end of a wall, in a corner, at the turn of a path. Worth deciding before ordering, since the price here buys a single animal.

Composed to Flank Something

Eighteen to twenty weeks. Cutting a mirrored piece means every measurement is taken twice, in opposite hands. Water and foot go in first as a single undifferentiated mass, and stay that way while the dolphin is cut rising out of them - torso before head, as always. The pectoral fin and the flukes are freed late, each standing clear on thin stone. The combed crests and rounded foam bosses are hollowed and undercut at the very end. Where a pair is ordered, neither is finished until both can be compared side by side. Animal and wave are one block; no pin, no dowel and no filler in either. Some 3,403kg for one animal and wave, craned across onto a poured concrete footing. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of destination.

  • Sculptures under 50cm — shipped by air freight. Typical delivery 1–2 weeks after production is complete.
  • Sculptures 50cm and above — shipped by sea freight. Typical delivery 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

For larger sculptures where faster delivery is needed, air freight is available at additional cost — contact us before ordering for a quote.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

30-Day Returns

We accept 30-day returns on sculptures in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

To start a return, contact us within 30 days of receipt. Return shipping for change-of-mind returns is at the customer's cost.

Bespoke and custom-commissioned pieces are non-refundable once production has started, as they are made specifically to your specification.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
