Description

A Chinese guardian lion sits with its mouth open above a plinth of three tiers: an upper block with a triangular apron and corner roundels, a middle lotus-petal band beneath a scroll frieze, and a stepped foot block carrying a longevity roundel between scroll bands. Grey veining runs through the marble.

A Three Tier Plinth Under a Guardian Lion

Three tiers means three chances to lose the line, and the whole plinth is cut as a set for that reason: each block is squared and its mouldings run against the one below before the next is started, so any drift is corrected while there is still stone to take. The longevity roundel on the foot block is cut last of all because it sits where a mallet would otherwise rest. The lion above is fitted to the finished cap.

A three-tier plinth lifts the head to standing eye level and above, which changes where the piece belongs: the foot of steps, a raised terrace, the end of an avenue, anywhere it is approached from below rather than looked down on. It will dominate a small courtyard. The tiered base wants a hard level surface rather than lawn, since the lowest step shows every settlement.

Height, and Where the Eye Lands

Sixteen weeks. The three plinth blocks are cut and dry-set in the yard before any moulding is finished, because a joint that does not close can still be corrected at that stage and cannot afterwards. The scroll frieze is run before the lotus band beneath it. The figure is seated last. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops. Around 4,668kg across four pieces, craned and bedded on a prepared concrete pad.

Tall figures on plinths sit in animal sculptures; the largest are under life size and large statues.

Production Time

Every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of destination.

  • Sculptures under 50cm — shipped by air freight. Typical delivery 1–2 weeks after production is complete.
  • Sculptures 50cm and above — shipped by sea freight. Typical delivery 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

For larger sculptures where faster delivery is needed, air freight is available at additional cost — contact us before ordering for a quote.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

30-Day Returns

We accept 30-day returns on sculptures in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

To start a return, contact us within 30 days of receipt. Return shipping for change-of-mind returns is at the customer's cost.

Bespoke and custom-commissioned pieces are non-refundable once production has started, as they are made specifically to your specification.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
