This cast resin sculpture is a fighting fish with everything open: the tail fanned up and back, the dorsal raised, the belly fins spread, all of them worked into wide veils with ragged torn-looking edges. The head and the line of the back are near-black, and from there the colour falls away through a grey until the outer few centimetres of every fin are colourless. It stands on a small clear pad.
The grade is set to run out before the edge and that is a deliberate stopping point rather than a fade that happens to end. A colour carried all the way out would make each fin a solid shape; stopped short, the edges disappear against a pale ground and the fish appears to be dissolving, which is what the piece is for. Where it stops has to be the same distance in on every fin or the animal looks lopsided, and on a ragged edge that distance has to be judged rather than measured. The veils themselves are worked from both faces because a fanned tail is looked at from behind quite as much as from the front, and every tear in the edge is cut in and then rounded off, since a square-cut tear catches light as a white line and reads as damage.
This is wide rather than tall and it is read from the side, so it wants a surface with a clear run: a console, a low bookcase, a broad window ledge. Put it against the light. With a window behind it the colourless fin edges vanish altogether and only the dark body and the grey middle read, which is the best of it; against a dark wall the whole fish closes into one silhouette. Leave clearance on both sides, and be aware the fin edges are the part that finds a passing sleeve.
Where the piece is standard the build is 3–4 weeks, and where it is bespoke 5–6. Where the grade stops is set at order, and it can be run right to the edges, held to the body alone, or reversed so the fins are dark and the body pale. Other colours are made the same way in amber, green and a deep red. Fin spread can be opened further or brought in, and a mirror-image fish can be made where two are wanted. Any scale is cut to order. It travels in a fitted crate with each fin supported along its length and the packing is worth keeping; lift it under the body and never by a fin, and two people make that easier than one. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.
A fighting fish with every fin fanned out belongs with our animal sculptures; ragged, open fins and tail lead to our organic sculptures, and smoke fading to colourless joins our resin sculptures.

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:
Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
If you have questions about shipping, customs, delivery timing, or anything else before you order, our team is here to help. Contact us via WhatsApp, email, or phone, and we'll respond within 24 hours.
