Green Slotted Sphere on Black Plates Resin Sculpture - 63cm, a glossy green resin sphere cut through the middle, set on a stacked black base, shown against a plain white background.
Green Slotted Sphere on Black Plates Resin Sculpture - 63cm $4,52500
Description

A green sphere slotted right through the middle and set on two stacked black plates. The cut passes completely through, so what shows in the opening is the room behind rather than a shadow, and the green is deepest where the ball is thickest at the rims. The two plates beneath it come with the sphere.

One Cut, Straight Through

Everything about this piece is decided by the width of one cut. A narrow slit would read as damage, a crack in a ball, and the eye would keep trying to close it. Opened too far and the sphere becomes two crescents facing each other, which is a different and much busier object. The width here is set so that the two halves stay legible as one ball while the opening is unmistakably deliberate, and that band of acceptable widths is narrower than it sounds. What makes it work at this diameter is that the cut passes completely through, so the slot carries the background rather than a shadow. Light from behind arrives through the opening undistorted while everything around it is bent by the curvature of the ball, and the contrast between the two is what stops the slot reading as a dark mark on a green surface.

At 63cm it is floor work or a low table piece, and it has to have something behind it: the slot is only an opening if what is beyond it can be seen, and against a wall it becomes a groove. A window end, a room divider position, or a table in front of a lit space all suit. It should be met square to the slot, since from the side the opening closes entirely and the piece reads as a plain green ball.

The Slot, the Green, and Delivery

Order a standard piece and it takes 3–4 weeks; order it bespoke and it takes 5–6. The slot is cut wider or brought to a slit, the green is taken toward blue, and the plates beneath are made in stone. Other diameters of sphere are made on the same plates, and the plates are made in other proportions where a broader footprint is wanted. A frosted body is offered and removes the effect the slot depends on, since frosting stops the background from being read through the opening and the cut becomes a shape rather than a view. It travels as two crated items, and the ball is lifted by the outer curve on both sides rather than through the slot. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A ball opened by one slot is organic sculpture; green run through the body is resin sculpture; and a sphere at this diameter is indoor sculpture floor work.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
