Two breaking crests are worked into one face of a slab on this cast resin sculpture, the whole surface frosted rather than polished, green in the hollows and pale at the tops. Beyond the second crest the water runs out in low swells to a long, tapering tail. The green is not applied: it is in the material and reads deepest low in the wave, which is why the hollows hold the colour and the crests lose it. The back of the slab is left flat and plain, so the piece is a relief and not a sculpture worked in the round.
Frosting a flat sheet is straightforward. Frosting a face that rises into two crests and falls away between them is not, because the grade of the finish changes with the angle the surface presents and an even hand produces an uneven result. The hollows come up finer than the crests unless the work is deliberately slowed on the high ground, and any patch taken twice shows as a lighter area for good. Here the frost lies at one even grade over the whole face, in the hollows as on the crests, so the colour alone does the shading: deep green low down, pale at the tops of the two crests.
It is a relief and only works from the front, so it belongs against a wall rather than in the open. Stood free in a room the back presents a plain green sheet to half the people in it. Against a wall it wants a run of clear space to either side, because the two crests are read one after the other along the length and anything crowding the ends stops that. It is deep enough in the foot to stand on its own on the floor, and it also sits well on a long low unit where the crests come up to about the height of a seated eye.
Making a standard piece takes 3–4 weeks, and making a bespoke one 5–6. The whole face is frosted and the frosting has to be the same grade in the hollows as on the crests. The length is cut to order, a polished version replaces the frosted one on request, and the slab can carry one crest or three instead of these two. The green runs to a blue or is taken out altogether, and the slab is made thicker in the foot where it is to stand on the floor. It travels flat on its back in a long crate with the worked face uppermost and boarded over, and it is carried by the two ends and never by the top edge of a crest. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.
Crests worked into one face of a slab is organic sculpture as relief; the frosted green is resin sculpture; and a relief wants the wall that indoor sculpture implies.

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
If you have questions about shipping, customs, delivery timing, or anything else before you order, our team is here to help. Contact us via WhatsApp, email, or phone, and we'll respond within 24 hours.
