Green Frosted Ragged Edge Plate Resin Sculpture, 20cm, with clear frosted edge and combed green field meeting in a jagged line, on a plain white background.
Green Frosted Ragged Edge Plate Resin Sculpture - 20cm $1,75500
Description

A flat plate, slim from front to back, frosted and colourless along one edge with a combed green field covering the rest of the face. The boundary between them runs as a ragged line with inlets and spurs rather than as a curve. Nothing is supplied to prop it up; the plate simply stands on its own lower edge.

The Boundary Is the Subject

Everything on this plate is ordinary except the line between the two halves, and that line is the entire object. A boundary drawn by hand comes out as a wave, because a hand making a ragged edge repeats itself at its own natural scale. A real coastline does not: it has inlets a few millimetres across sitting inside bays a few centimetres across, and the same kind of irregularity appears at every size you look at. So the edge here is built up in three passes, each one working at a finer scale than the last, and none of them allowed to tidy the one before. It takes far longer than the rest of the plate together.

At 20cm it is a desk or a shelf object that is looked at closely, and it is too small to carry a room. Stand it where it can be approached rather than glimpsed. The combing wants light from one side to bring its lines up, and the frosted end wants light behind it to glow; a position beside a window at an angle gives both at different times of day. A plain ground behind it is essential, since the edge is fine.

The Edge, the Comb, and Delivery

As standard the build runs 3–4 weeks, and as a bespoke commission 5–6. The boundary is drawn simpler or more broken, the comb is cut at another angle, and the green is taken to blue or to amber. A version with the colourless part enlarged is made, which shifts the balance and is a different composition rather than a different finish. The plate is also cast at other sizes for a wall niche. It is sent in one flat box between shaped boards with the edges protected, and one hand lifts it. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A coastline drawn as an edge is organic sculpture; the green field is resin sculpture; and a plate this thin is indoor sculpture.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
