The black marble base under this resin scholar's rock is included. The surface is granular rather than polished, closer to weathered limestone than to cast material, and short spires and spurs stand out from the mass at every level. Seven or eight openings are cut through it, none of them large. It is colourless with gold flecks and a scatter of amber ones.
This is a very rough surface and the difference is worth understanding. Where most of these rocks are polished to a full gloss, this one is worked to a fine even granulate over its whole area, so it returns light as a dull sheen and reads as an opaque stone until you look into an opening and find the material is clear. Out of that skin come the spires: short pointed projections, a dozen or more, standing proud at the top and along both flanks, each one a few centimetres and each turned a different way. The openings are small by comparison and scattered rather than placed, so the mass stays dominant and the piece reads as solid rock with holes in it rather than as an openwork form. Gold flecks catch in the granulate where a polished surface would have thrown them off, and a few amber ones sit among them.
At 94cm this stands on a surface and reads at standing height. A console, a sideboard, a credenza or a reception desk all carry it, and it needs nothing beneath. Because the skin is matt it takes a downlight well, and the spires catch it: overhead light puts a highlight on each one and leaves the hollows dark, which is exactly the reading it wants. Against that, a dark background does less for this piece than a pale one, since the granular surface is what carries it rather than any silhouette. Keep it clear of anything at spire height. Indoor use only.
Lead times run 5–6 weeks bespoke and 3–4 standard. The surface is the reason: a granulate this even takes far more work to bring up than a polish does. Two things are set at order. The coarseness of the skin runs from a fine tooth, which still reads as stone but lets more light through, to the heavy granulate here. And the spires: a dozen as here, or half that for a calmer object, or none at all, which turns the piece into a plain weathered boulder and suits a home with young children. Fleck colour can be gold as here, silver, or left out. It can be built at other heights with the same spires. Handling is the point worth flagging: the spires are the vulnerable part, so it travels standing with each one individually sleeved, and it should be lifted by the body rather than anywhere near them. Two people. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.
A granular rock bristling with spires belongs with our abstract sculptures; small openings scattered through a heavy body place it with our organic sculptures, and gold caught in a matt clear skin suits our resin sculptures.

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.
For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.
Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.
For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.
If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.
Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.
To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.
Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:
Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
If you have questions about shipping, customs, delivery timing, or anything else before you order, our team is here to help. Contact us via WhatsApp, email, or phone, and we'll respond within 24 hours.
