This openwork scholar's rock is cast in clear resin and made to stand on the floor. The mass is deeply undercut and pierced right through in half a dozen places, with the material running as broad plates and thick webs between the voids, and the whole of it rises off a narrow waisted foot. It is colourless with gold flecks throughout.
Scale is what makes this one different in kind rather than in degree. The openings are large enough to walk past and see a room through, so the piece reads as a screen as much as a sculpture, and the voids do more work than the material. The plates between them are broad and thin, angled so no two catch the light at once, and the webs joining them are thick and short. All of that mass then narrows towards the bottom into a waisted foot barely a fifth of the width of the crown, which is what gives a heavy object its lift. The gold flecks run right through, and at this size they read as a field rather than as individual marks. Nothing on it repeats, and at this scale that is obvious rather than a detail.
This is a floor piece and it needs a room to match. A hallway, a gallery, a showroom, a reception area or a wide landing all take it, and it should not go on a surface at all: at 148cm on the floor, the crown comes close to eye level. It wants clear floor on every side and something plain behind, and it is at its best where daylight comes through the openings from behind or one side. Being a screen, it also works as a room divider set away from the walls, which is the placement that earns most from the openwork. Indoor use only.
Bespoke commissions take 5–6 weeks; standard pieces take 3–4. Size is the variable: the form can be made to other heights, with the plates and voids drawn to each size rather than scaled up from one original. The waist can be run heavier, which the studio advises in any position where the piece could be leaned on. Fleck colour is gold as standard, with silver made and a version with none. Access is the real constraint and it should be settled before ordering: the piece travels standing in a purpose-built crate, needs a clear route and a doorway with generous headroom, and takes four people to move and two to stand. The studio will ask for the dimensions of the approach at order. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.
Related work sits among our abstract sculptures, the rock form is in our organic sculptures, and the gold-flecked casting stands among our resin sculptures.

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.
Production time is separate from delivery time.
Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.
Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.
All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.
Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.
For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.
Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.
For all orders delivered worldwide, all customs duties, import taxes, and applicable local clearance fees are fully included in the purchase price. We manage and settle these charges on your behalf, ensuring you will not incur any additional fees upon arrival.
Please note that this policy excludes shipments delivered to Switzerland, as well as any individual orders where an exclusion is explicitly stated prior to purchase; in such instances, local customs charges and import taxes remain the responsibility of the customer.
If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.
Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.
To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.
Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:
Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
If you have questions about shipping, customs, delivery timing, or anything else before you order, our team is here to help. Contact us via WhatsApp, email, or phone, and we'll respond within 24 hours.
