Frosted White Scholar's Rock Resin Sculpture, 62cm, with rounded lobed voids on a black base, shown against a plain light grey background.
Frosted White Scholar's Rock Resin Sculpture - 62cm $2,09200
Description

The marble under this resin scholar's rock is black and included. It is frosted right through to an even opaque white with no colour anywhere in it, and the surface is smooth and satin rather than granular or polished. Four large voids are cut through the mass, and the outline is drawn in soft lobes with no point or spur on it at all.

Opaque White, and Every Edge Rounded

Taking the transparency out is what this piece is for, and it changes everything. Because no light passes through, the form has to be read entirely from its outside, and it is modelled for exactly that: every lobe swells and turns, every edge is rounded off, and the transitions between them are long, so the whole object reads as a run of soft shadows rather than as a set of bright lines. The four voids then become the only hard elements in it, dark against the white and each shaped differently, one a tall slot and the others rounded. The satin finish holds an even light with no highlight anywhere, which means the piece looks the same from morning to evening where a polished one changes hourly. It is a quiet object and an easy one to place.

At 62cm this suits a surface at seated height. A sideboard, a credenza, a wide shelf or a study all take it, and the base needs nothing under it. Being opaque and pale it needs no depth of field: it reads perfectly well against a wall close behind, which makes it the answer for a shelf or an alcove where an openwork piece would lose its voids. Against a white wall it does go quiet, so a mid or dark ground earns more. Almost any light suits it. It also pairs well with a polished piece, where the contrast of finish does the work. Indoor use only.

The Frost, and What It Would Be Without It

Whether it is standard or bespoke sets the build: 3–4 weeks or 5–6. The frost is not a coating but a finish taken through the whole body, so it cannot be removed later, which is worth knowing before choosing: the same form can be made polished and colourless instead, and that would be a completely different object, bright and full of internal reflection, needing space and light where this one needs neither. A half-and-half is also made, frosted over the mass with the void edges polished, which puts a bright line round each opening. On colour: white is standard, and a pale grey, a bone and a soft green are all made in the same frost. The number of voids runs from two to six. It can also be built at other heights. It is a robust piece, with nothing on it to break, and it travels standing with the voids packed and goes under one arm. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

An opaque white rock rounded at every edge belongs with our abstract sculptures; four voids set dark against soft lobes join it to our organic sculptures, and an even frost over every face suits our resin sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
