Frosted Mint Feather Wave Cast Resin Sculpture (93cm) by Giant Sculptures, a curling self-supporting form with ribbed texture, shown on a plain white background.
Frosted Mint Feather Wave Cast Resin Sculpture - 93cm $3,12000
Description

A frosted mint wave that curls back on itself like a feather, needing no base. From a long, tapering tail it swells into a low hump and dips, then rises at the far end in a tall curve and turns back over its own length, so that the tail passes under the crest, which is what gives it the feather reading rather than the wave one. Fine ribs run along the whole form like the barbs of a feather. The mint is pale enough to be almost white in the thin parts and only shows as a colour where the material gathers.

A Surface That Makes Its Own Light

A frosted surface is not a finish laid over a form, it is the form seen differently, and it has to be the same everywhere or it is worse than a polish. On a polished piece the eye reads reflections, which move as the viewer moves, so a slight variation in the surface is lost in them. Frosted material has no reflections to hide behind: it holds a soft even light of its own, and any patch that is smoother or rougher than the rest reads as a mark on the object. This piece curls back on itself, so it has undercuts and a tail that runs underneath the crest, and those are the faces where an uneven surface usually shows. On a piece with no base the underside is in view whenever it is looked at from below, so the frosting has to carry right round into those faces, over every one of the fine ribs that run along the form.

Frosted material makes its own light, so it holds up where a polished piece would go dull, in a north room or a hallway. That is the argument for it: a clear or polished wave in flat light has nothing to catch and reads as a grey shape, whereas this one is at its best in exactly those conditions. It needs no base and sits directly on a surface, and it is deep enough to want most of the depth of a console or a broad shelf. It should be seen from the side the curl turns towards, since the feather reading depends on the tail passing under the crest, which is invisible from behind.

The Frosted Curl, Its Options and Delivery

From order, a standard piece runs to 3–4 weeks and a bespoke commission to 5–6. Every face is frosted, and one dull patch anywhere on it would show from across a room. It can also be polished rather than frosted, which makes a different object altogether. The span is drawn to order, and the mint runs to a pale blue, a smoke grey or a clear. It travels in one foam-lined case laid on the flat of the curl, and it needs no assembly: it is lifted out by the body under the turn and set down. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A frosted mint ribbon curled back over itself like a feather takes this wave into our organic sculptures, our resin sculptures and our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For all orders delivered worldwide, all customs duties, import taxes, and applicable local clearance fees are fully included in the purchase price. We manage and settle these charges on your behalf, ensuring you will not incur any additional fees upon arrival.

Please note that this policy excludes shipments delivered to Switzerland, as well as any individual orders where an exclusion is explicitly stated prior to purchase; in such instances, local customs charges and import taxes remain the responsibility of the customer.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
