Faceted Owl White Marble Statue - 180cm $25,66400
Description

An owl perches square to the front, two facial discs cut as deep radiating fans. Ringed eyes sit at their centres, sharp ear tufts lift at either side and a small hooked beak sits between. Breast and belly are resolved into flat diamond planes with sharp arrises between them. The folded wings at either side are carved instead as courses of overlapping feathers. Both feet grip the front edge of a plain rectangular plinth. White marble near neutral, grey veining crossing the faceted breast and plinth.

A Faceted Body and a Naturalistic Face

This bird asks for two incompatible languages on one object. The breast is faceted - flat planes, sharp arrises, straight edges - and the face is naturalistic, with radiating feather fans and modelled eye rings. Where they meet, at the throat, there is a real risk of the piece reading as two halves of different sculptures stuck together. The answer is decided on the block rather than discovered at the throat: the facial discs are set out as two shallow dishes whose OUTER edges are straight-sided, so that the outermost facet of the breast can run up and die into a straight line rather than into a curve. Everything after that follows - the face is cut to a boundary that is already faceted, and the transition never has to be negotiated.

An owl is a frontal composition and this one doubly so: the two radiating discs are the whole piece and they face outward. At 180cm the pair of discs sit overhead, so the bird is met looking up. So it wants approaching head-on rather than passing - the end of a path, an alcove, a gateway, facing down a walk, framed in an opening. Keep the background plain. Faceted stone against foliage or patterned brick becomes visual noise, and the grey veining that crosses the flat breast planes - the quiet pleasure of the piece - disappears entirely against anything busy.

A Frontal Bird on a Plain Ground

Eighteen to twenty weeks. Reconciling a faceted breast with a naturalistic face is decided on the block, not discovered. The plinth is dressed and the bird roughed above it as an over-square upright mass. The two facial discs are set out first, with straight-sided outer edges, so the breast facets have a straight boundary to die into. The breast planes are then cut in flat passes and checked across both diagonals. The wing feather courses, ear tufts and gripping feet are freed last. Bird and plinth take no pin and no filler, and the facets are cut not moulded. Some 3,403kg for bird and plinth, craned across and bedded onto a prepared pad. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Production Time

Every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of destination.

  • Sculptures under 50cm — shipped by air freight. Typical delivery 1–2 weeks after production is complete.
  • Sculptures 50cm and above — shipped by sea freight. Typical delivery 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

For larger sculptures where faster delivery is needed, air freight is available at additional cost — contact us before ordering for a quote.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

30-Day Returns

We accept 30-day returns on sculptures in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

To start a return, contact us within 30 days of receipt. Return shipping for change-of-mind returns is at the customer's cost.

Bespoke and custom-commissioned pieces are non-refundable once production has started, as they are made specifically to your specification.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
