Description

A peacock stands with its tail fully displayed, the fan a great rounded screen behind. Each shaft of the fan is cut as a separate quill with its barbs combed either side and an eye at the tip, and the outermost feathers are pierced clear of one another along the rim. The bird stands small in front of it with both wings dropped and spread, the neck upright and three plumes lifting from the head. It stands on a low oval socle with a moulded edge. Warm peach-apricot marble, even through fan, bird and socle, cream where light falls.

A Fan Set Out From One Centre

The displayed tail is nine-tenths of this carving and it is entirely a problem of setting out. Every shaft radiates from a single point behind the bird's tail root, and the eye reads radial symmetry with extraordinary precision - one shaft a degree out of true, or a hand's width longer than its opposite number, and the whole fan looks buckled. So the centre is established on the raw block first and every shaft is struck from it with a trammel, working outward in opposed pairs so that left and right are always cut in the same session and can be compared immediately. The barbs are combed along each shaft afterwards, and the outer rim - where the feathers are pierced clear of one another - is the last work and the most fragile.

At two and a half metres the fan is not a detail on this piece, it is the piece: a rounded screen of stone two metres across, with a small bird standing in front of it. At 250cm the fan stands far overhead and reads as a screen rather than a bird. That means it behaves architecturally - it blocks a view, it closes a vista, it can end an axis the way a wall or a hedge does. Use it that way: at the far end of a walk, closing a courtyard, against a dark hedge that lets the pierced rim read as air. The peach-apricot stone holds against brick, render, gravel and dark planting on hue alone and needs nothing arranged behind it, though it will argue with white marble nearby.

A Screen More Than a Bird

Twenty-six to twenty-eight weeks. Setting out the fan's radiating shafts from one centre governs the entire schedule. The socle is turned and the block stood, the fan's centre established and every shaft struck from it with a trammel in opposed pairs. The bird is roughed in front of the fan once the shaft layout is fixed, because its position is taken from the centre. The barbs are combed along each shaft, the eyes cut at the tips, and the pierced outer rim opened last of all. Fan, bird and socle come from one block, unpinned and unfilled throughout. Some 9,118kg with the fan behind, craned in one lift onto a poured concrete foundation. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Display birds occupy a corner of animal sculptures, and coloured stone runs through marble sculptures.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of destination.

  • Sculptures under 50cm — shipped by air freight. Typical delivery 1–2 weeks after production is complete.
  • Sculptures 50cm and above — shipped by sea freight. Typical delivery 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

For larger sculptures where faster delivery is needed, air freight is available at additional cost — contact us before ordering for a quote.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

30-Day Returns

We accept 30-day returns on sculptures in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

To start a return, contact us within 30 days of receipt. Return shipping for change-of-mind returns is at the customer's cost.

Bespoke and custom-commissioned pieces are non-refundable once production has started, as they are made specifically to your specification.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
