A bundle of branches stands upright inside this clear resin block. The branches run the full height and are cut off flush with the top, so the plane of the block is broken by eight or nine pale ovals of end grain. Their bark is near black and split, and where it has lifted the wood beneath shows rust orange. Between the branches the resin is colourless and the gaps read all the way through.
The whole object turns on one decision: the branches stand on end rather than lying down. That puts the end grain uppermost, and end grain is the most detailed face a piece of timber has. Each oval shows its rings, its pith and often a split running off centre, and because the branches are of different thickness the ovals vary from the size of a coin to the size of a plum. Around them the bark is left exactly as it came off the tree, black and coarsely fissured, with the orange heartwood showing through every break. The four sides of the block therefore read as a dense vertical thicket, while the top reads as a map. Nothing is dyed. The rust colour is the wood's own, and it varies from branch to branch.
At 31cm this is a shelf and console piece rather than a floor one. It sits on a mantel, a sideboard, a broad windowsill or a stack of books, and it wants to be somewhere it can be looked down into, because the top is the face that rewards attention. A lamp set behind it throws the branch shadows out through the clear sides. On a pale surface the block's own edges disappear and the bundle appears to stand unsupported. Indoors only.
Allow 3–4 weeks for a standard piece and 5–6 weeks for a bespoke commission. Two things are chosen at order. The count and calibre of the branches, which sets how dense the thicket reads and how much of the top is end grain rather than clear: a tighter bundle of thinner stock gives many small ovals, a loose group of heavy stock gives four or five broad ones. And the clear margin at the sides, which decides whether the bundle looks contained or merely surrounded. Species comes from what the studio holds seasoned, and it sets the bark colour, which runs from this near black through to a silver grey. Plan size and height are both made to order, and the stock is agreed with the customer before work starts. One crate takes the whole block, nothing needs assembling, and at this size one person can carry it. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.
Upright branches in a squared clear case read as geometry for our abstract sculptures, as gathered wood for our organic sculptures, and as clear casting for our resin sculptures.

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.
Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.
Production time is separate from delivery time.
Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.
Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.
All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.
Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.
For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.
Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.
For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.
If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.
Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.
To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.
Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:
Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
If you have questions about shipping, customs, delivery timing, or anything else before you order, our team is here to help. Contact us via WhatsApp, email, or phone, and we'll respond within 24 hours.
