Description

A wolf lies couchant with its forelegs stretched out and its head raised and turned aside. The ears are erect and pointed, the muzzle long and wedge-shaped, the mouth slightly open. A heavy ruff of long carved locks falls from the neck across the shoulder and the brush tail is curled along the near flank. It lies on a stepped rectangular plinth whose face carries an incised lozenge lattice. White marble, grey veining branching in fine dark lines across flank, haunch and plinth.

A Lattice Struck After the Animal, Not Before

The lozenge lattice on the plinth face looks like the simplest work on the piece and it is the last to be marked out. The reason is arithmetic: a lattice only reads as a pattern if the lozenges come out whole at both ends, and the length available is not known until the animal above has been finished and the plinth trimmed to suit it. Strike the lattice first and the final trim cuts a lozenge in half at one corner, which is the kind of small wrongness that nobody can name and everybody notices. So the face is left plain, the animal is carved, the plinth is brought to its true length, and only then is the spacing stepped off from the centre outward so that whatever error remains is split evenly between the two ends.

At 584kg and a metre long this is the one animal in this tranche that an ordinary building will take without a structural conversation - a hall, a wide landing, the foot of a staircase, an orangery, a library. At 100cm along its length this lies low and is read from above and from the side. A couchant animal is a companionable thing rather than a monument, and it suits being come upon at close range: beside a doorway, at the end of a passage, flanking a hearth. The ruff is the deepest carving on the piece and it wants raking light across it rather than flat light from the front, so a position near a window at an angle does more for it than one facing the glass.

The Piece That Fits Indoors

Twelve to fourteen weeks. Striking the lozenge lattice on the plinth face waits until the animal above is done, so its spacing answers the finished length. The plinth is dressed and squared, the animal roughed lying upon it with the forelegs left as thick bars. The body and haunches come down next, then the raised head and the wedge muzzle. The ruff is cut late and deeply undercut, lock over lock, because it is the passage that gives the animal its character and the one most easily ruined by a heavy hand. The lattice is struck last. Neither the animal nor its lattice plinth carries a pin, a dowel or any filler. Only 584kg, which a gantry and four people will bed onto a prepared pad without much ceremony. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of destination.

  • Sculptures under 50cm — shipped by air freight. Typical delivery 1–2 weeks after production is complete.
  • Sculptures 50cm and above — shipped by sea freight. Typical delivery 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

For larger sculptures where faster delivery is needed, air freight is available at additional cost — contact us before ordering for a quote.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

30-Day Returns

We accept 30-day returns on sculptures in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

To start a return, contact us within 30 days of receipt. Return shipping for change-of-mind returns is at the customer's cost.

Bespoke and custom-commissioned pieces are non-refundable once production has started, as they are made specifically to your specification.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
