Contemporary Crouching Figure Bronze Sculpture, standing 150cm tall, presents a solitary human form drawn into a tight, grief-stricken crouch on a flat stone ledge. Knees pulled close, head bowed between folded arms, one hand extended outward with an open palm, the figure communicates profound vulnerability with unflinching anatomical honesty.
This piece is cast using the traditional lost-wax method, a process that preserves every surface nuance from the original sculpted model. The result is a hand-finished antique bronze sculpture with a deep dark-brown patina across recessed areas and warm mid-tone highlights emerging on the raised planes of knuckles, toes, and musculature. The hair and skin surfaces carry rich textural definition that rewards close inspection. As a large contemporary bronze figure, the weight and presence of the material give the subject a grounded, permanent quality that no resin or reconstituted stone piece can match.
At 150cm and 300kg, this sculpture is suited to institutional spaces, large private residences, chapel courtyards, healthcare gardens, and civic settings where its humanitarian subject matter carries genuine resonance. The stone-grey ledge base integrates naturally with paved terraces, polished concrete interiors, or carved stone architectural surrounds. The antique patina reads warmly against pale render, aged brick, and dark hardwoods alike. The piece is equally at home indoors and outdoors, with bronze weathering gracefully to a stable verdigris over time in exposed settings.
We can adjust the patina finish from the antique dark-brown shown to a classical verdigris, a polished warm bronze, or a near-black oxidised tone. The scale of the piece can be modified to suit your specific site requirements, and the composition is available as a bespoke commission inspired by the work of Timothy Schmalz. Contact us before ordering to discuss any customisation requirements and we will provide a tailored quotation.
