Cognac Amber & Clear Curling Splash Resin Sculpture - 81cm, wave-like resin piece rising from an amber pooled base into clear curling arms, on a plain white background.
Cognac Amber & Clear Curling Splash Resin Sculpture - 81cm $2,57700
Description

This cast resin sculpture gathers a cognac amber in the bowl at its foot, and the colour is spent by the time the arms leave it, so the upper half is colourless water curling back over what is beneath. In the hollow the amber is at its darkest, almost red-brown, and it lightens as the material rises, and the change happens inside the body rather than at any visible edge. Above it the arms arch over and turn back on themselves, so the piece leans forward over its own foot.

Cognac Amber Below, Colourless Above

A tint that ends is a harder thing to make than a tint that fades out at an edge. Here the amber has to be used up by a particular height, the height where the arms leave the bowl, and it has to get there gradually enough that no boundary is visible anywhere. Too short and there is a band of colour with clear above it; too long and the arms carry amber into the part of the piece that is meant to be weightless. The arms themselves are the second problem, because they curl back over the bowl and return to it on a slender clear arch, which puts the whole upper half out over the foot and makes the amber below it the counterweight as well as the colour.

The arms curl over the front, so it wants to be met square on rather than approached from the side. From the side the arms overlap one another and the space between them closes; from the front they open out and the bowl is visible underneath them. That makes it a piece for the end of a run rather than the middle of one, and at 81cm it belongs on a sideboard or console that closes a hall, where it can be approached head on. It leans forward, so it also wants a surface with a little depth in front of it rather than behind. Light from in front and low fills the amber; light from above puts the bowl in the shadow of its own arms.

Where the Colour Stops, and Delivery

Most pieces are standard and take 3–4 weeks; a bespoke commission takes 5–6. The amber stops part way up and the arms above it are colourless, and where that change happens decides whether it reads as one piece. The amber is run further up the body or held back at the bowl, made deeper or paler, and the arms are drawn open or closed. The scale is set at order. Delivery is one foam-lined case, the arms faced separately and the bowl packed below them, and there is nothing to assemble: it is lifted by the bowl and never by an arm. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A cognac bowl under colourless arms puts this splash with our organic sculptures; the amber held in it ranks among our resin sculptures; and arms that curl over the front keep it with our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For all orders delivered worldwide, all customs duties, import taxes, and applicable local clearance fees are fully included in the purchase price. We manage and settle these charges on your behalf, ensuring you will not incur any additional fees upon arrival.

Please note that this policy excludes shipments delivered to Switzerland, as well as any individual orders where an exclusion is explicitly stated prior to purchase; in such instances, local customs charges and import taxes remain the responsibility of the customer.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
