Cobalt & Aqua Cantilevered Ribbon Resin Sculpture, 72cm, twisting upward from a black marble base with one arm thrown sideways, on a plain white background.
Cobalt & Aqua Cantilevered Ribbon Resin Sculpture - 72cm $1,89000
Description

A ribbon rising through a half turn and throwing its upper arm out sideways, well clear of the block it rises from. Cobalt and aqua run through the body together, deepest where the ribbon doubles and palest along the drawn edge. The small block under it is black marble and is supplied; the ribbon rises from it rather than resting on it.

An Arm Thrown Past Its Own Foot

A cantilever is the one structure that cannot be judged by eye: the arm either holds or it does not, and the section that decides it is at the turn, where almost nobody looks. Cobalt and aqua cross wherever the ribbon doubles over itself, and that overlap is the darkest part of the whole piece, sitting directly above the turn the arm is carried from. An arm thrown this far past the foot is a cantilever, and the casting has to be heaviest exactly where it turns. Polished, so the two blues are read through one another where the ribbon overlaps itself.

A console or a sideboard, with clear air on the side the arm reaches into. A plain wall, because the reach of the upper arm is the whole composition and it has to be seen against something empty. Light from the side the arm reaches toward puts the cantilever in relief; from the other side it disappears into the body. The span beats the height on this one, and the reach of the upper arm is what registers first from anywhere in a room.

Reaching Further, and Getting It There

A standard piece takes 3–4 weeks to make, and a bespoke commission 5–6. The arm is thrown further out, the cobalt is lightened toward the aqua, and white marble is cut for the block. Draw the arm further out and the block is widened to hold it, because the balance is already past the footprint. Block and ribbon travel apart and go together on site, with the ribbon set down after the block is level. One person for the ribbon and one for the block, and the arm should never take weight. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

An upper arm cantilevered far beyond the block belongs to our organic sculptures; the cobalt and aqua casting sits with our resin sculptures, and more to give a room some movement is in our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
