Clear Winding Shell Monumental Resin Sculpture - 248cm, an open shell form with rippled concentric rings winding to a hollow centre, shown on a plain white background.
Clear Winding Shell Monumental Resin Sculpture - 248cm $25,31500
Description

This monumental sculpture is an open shell form in clear resin, cast as concentric rippled rings that wind in towards a hollow centre, and it stands on edge. It is polished over every ring and every trough, and there is no surface anywhere on it: this is a sculpture at architectural scale and it is offered as one.

Rings Winding Into a Hollow Centre

Each ring is modelled into the mould and they wind in towards the centre on a true spiral, so the form reads as one movement rather than as a stack of separate rings. The whole outside is polished by hand, from a coarse grade through to a mirror, and so is the inside of the hollow centre, where two people out of three would never look. The rim is worked last and left as a true edge. Every ring holds its pitch round the whole spiral, and a ring that lost it would show from right across a room.

Its scale calls for a hall, an atrium, a covered courtyard or a generous landing, with space to circle it rather than view it from one side only. The hollow centre is the whole point of it, so nothing should stand in front of the opening, and light from above carries the rings down into the material.

The Rings, the Scale, and Getting It On Site

In the workshop a standard piece takes 3–4 weeks and a bespoke commission 5–6. Most of it is the ring work. You settle three things. The ring count is drawn to order, the resin is offered tinted rather than clear, and the piece is built at other spans on request. Long axis and overall depth are settled at order. The group is made as one so that the wind of the rings into the centre reads the same on each piece. The packing protects the winding rim and the hollow centre; moving it wants four people. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A shell of clear rings at architectural scale belongs with our abstract sculptures; the winding rings sit with our organic sculptures, and the great clear casting with our resin sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
