Clear Wide-Armed Torso Cast Resin Sculpture - 34cm, arms raised wide in a V shape above a narrow base, shown on a plain white background.
Clear Wide-Armed Torso Cast Resin Sculpture - 34cm $1,41700
Description

In this cast resin sculpture both arms are raised and spread wide from a waist that is narrower than either of them, so the piece opens upward like a shallow V and puts most of its mass above the middle. There is no neck to speak of. The footprint is small - narrower than the waist - and the whole thing is colourless, so what you read is two planes lifting away from a point.

Opening Upward From a Narrow Waist

A form that opens upward is top-heavy by design, and the fix is not a weight in the base but the taper of the arms. Each is worked thinner toward the tip until the centre of mass drops back over the foot, and the point at which that happens is found on the piece rather than calculated. The arms are set at slightly different angles on purpose: matched exactly they read as a symbol rather than a body. The foot is barely wider than the waist and is flatted last, after the arms are final, because every cut above it moves the balance.

An upward-opening piece wants height above it rather than width beside it, so at 34cm it suits a shelf with clear air over it, a windowsill, or the top of a low run of cabinets - not a place where a shelf sits close above. It reads well on its own, since the two raised arms already make a gesture and a neighbour would compete with it. Side light down the inner faces of the arms is what shows the taper.

Arm Angle, Tint and Standing a Top-Heavy Form

Plan for 3–4 weeks on a standard piece and 5–6 weeks on a bespoke commission. Arm angle is set at order, from this wide opening to a narrow lift, and the arms can be run longer or cut back. Colour is carried through the resin as an amber, a pale blue, a smoke or a green, with gold, silver or copper leaf offered besides. Scale is cut to order, and a stone or timber block can be set beneath it. Pieces ordered at the same time are made together, so the family matches. It arrives boxed and sleeved as a one-person carry. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A torso opening upward into two raised arms belongs with our classic sculptures; a V of planes lifting from a point leads to our abstract sculptures, and a colourless body joins our resin sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
