Clear Violin Resin Sculpture - 85cm, a full-size transparent violin form with brown ink swirls through the body, standing on its flat-cut tail against a plain white background.
Clear Violin Resin Sculpture - 85cm $2,56400
Description

A violin at rather more than full size, with the body, the ribs, the pegbox and the scroll all drawn in full. Colourless through the body with brown ink drifting through the belly and the ribs. Nothing is supplied under it: the piece stands on its own tail and is cut flat there for the purpose.

An Instrument With No Wood in It

Everything a violin normally says, it says with wood: the grain, the varnish, the colour of the belly against the ribs. None of that is available here, so the instrument has to be delivered by outline and cutting alone, which is why the scroll and the f-holes are taken so much deeper than the object strictly needs. A violin in a clear body has no wood to speak with, so the whole instrument has to be got across by outline and by the ink standing in for grain - which is why the scroll and the f-holes are cut as sharply as they are. Polished over the belly and the back, with the scroll and the pegbox left crisp.

A study shelf or the top of an upright suits it, set square to the room as the instrument itself would be. Stand it against something pale, so the ink reads as figure and the outline reads as an instrument. Light onto the front and a little above makes the f-holes legible; from behind they become gaps. The outline is recognised instantly from anywhere in a room, and the ink is the reason to come and look.

Taking the Ink Out, and One Crate

From order, a standard piece runs to 3–4 weeks and a bespoke commission to 5–6. The ink can be taken out for a clear instrument, it can be run in another colour, and the piece is made at other sizes. Take the ink out and the instrument becomes a drawing in air, so the cutting is deepened to carry a form that has nothing else left. One crate, standing, and nothing to be done to it on site. One person, both hands, and the scroll is not where to take hold of it. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A clear violin with brown ink in its belly stands in our indoor sculptures; an instrument drawn without wood belongs with our contemporary and modern sculptures, and the ink held in the resin joins it to our resin sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
