Clear Twin Bark Band Log Resin Sculpture, 40cm, encased wood block with black bark edges, pale sapwood stripes, and golden-brown heartwood center, set against a plain light background.
Clear Twin Bark Band Log Resin Sculpture - 40cm $3,51000
Description

The front face of this block reads as five vertical bands: black bark at each edge, a pale sapwood stripe inside each of those, and a golden-brown heartwood face down the middle. The banding is close to symmetrical about the centre line, and the top carries a full disc of end grain with its own ring of bark still around it.

Two Bark Bands Flanking a Golden Heartwood Face

Symmetry is what this block is about. The log has been positioned so the two bark edges fall at equal distances from the centre and the sapwood stripes match in width, which gives the front face a formal, almost architectural order that a log rarely has. The heartwood between them is a warm gold with a straight grain and no strong figure, so it reads as a single field of colour rather than a pattern. The bark bands are rough and matt against the polished resin at each edge, and the contrast between the two runs the full height. Its two materials are a solid timber section and an imported clear casting resin.

At 40cm it sits beside a sofa or a chair as a broad and steady block, and its flat top is genuinely useful for books, a tray or a lamp. The banded front gives it a clear face to present, so it suits a position against a wall or at the end of a sofa rather than out in the middle of a room. Warm timber, wool and unpolished brass all sit well beside it. It is heavy and will stay where it is put. Indoor use only.

Timber Choice and the Cost of Symmetry

From order, a standard piece runs to 3–4 weeks and a bespoke commission to 5–6. The banding on this piece is the result of a choice made before anything else: a log has to be selected whose bark edges and sapwood fall evenly about a centre line, and most do not. That is why a symmetrical block costs more to produce than an off-centre one and why a repeat order takes longer, since it waits on a suitable section rather than on studio time. If symmetry is not the point, an off-centre log gives the same materials for less and is available sooner. Species is specified separately, and a darker heartwood makes the bark bands read as part of the timber while a paler one sets them apart. Other sizes are available to order. It arrives standing, and the piece is set down on its final position before being turned, since the banded face has a right way round and dragging it to line up marks the base. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Mirror-image bands of bark, sapwood and heartwood suit it to our organic sculptures; its casting is listed in our resin sculptures and its symmetry in our abstract sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
