Clear Turned Ring Disc on Marble Resin Sculpture, 63cm, with concentric rings and a dark centre bead on a black marble base, plain white background.
Clear Turned Ring Disc on Marble Resin Sculpture - 63cm $4,65900
Description

A colourless disc of cast resin, with concentric rings turned into its face so that each steps back from the one outside it. Inside them sits a broad ring of white opaque material, and at the dead centre a single dark bead. It stands upright on a black marble base, which comes with it.

The Opaque Ring Is What Stops the Eye

Rings cut into a transparent body do not read as rings. Each step is a curved face and each one bends what is behind it by a different amount, so what arrives at the eye is a set of displaced fragments of the room rather than a pattern of circles. Left at that the piece would be restless and slightly sickening to look at. The white ring is the answer and it is the only opaque thing in the object: it stops the light dead partway in, gives the eye a fixed edge to hold and turns everything outside it into a border rather than a disturbance. Without the white it would read as an error rather than as a design.

The whole piece is a device for altering what is behind it, so it wants something there worth altering - a window, a run of room, a lit wall at some distance. Against a blank wall a hand away it has nothing to work on and goes flat. At 63cm it wants a console or a sideboard with the run to itself, and it must be met square: from the side the rings close and the bead disappears behind them.

The Rings, the Centre, and Delivery

Our workshops take 3–4 weeks over a standard piece and 5–6 over a bespoke commission. The ring count is cut deeper or fewer, the white band is drawn wider or left out entirely, and the bead is made in stone or steel instead. A tinted body is offered and changes the piece completely, since colour in the material competes with the displacement the rings are there to produce. The disc is also cast at other diameters on the same stone. It travels in one flat case standing on its edge as it stands in the room, the marble packed apart, and two people lift the disc by its rim. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Rings turned into a face rather than drawn on it is indoor sculpture; the still centre is contemporary sculpture; and the clear body is resin sculpture.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
