Clear Teardrop Base Black Disc Top Side Table - 50cm, with a clear resin teardrop base and a matt black disc top, shown on a plain white background.
Clear Teardrop Base Black Disc Top Side Table - 50cm $4,25200
Description

In this side table two forms, one of clear cast resin and one of black-finished fibreglass, meet at a collar. Below is a solid teardrop of clear resin standing point up, bulbous and heavy at the floor and drawing to a narrow neck. Above the collar the material changes entirely: a matt black stem rises and widens into a wide flat disc, opaque and quite plain, that oversails the teardrop the whole way round. The clear form is read through and the black form is read against.

A Black Disc on a Clear Teardrop

The join is a collar and the two halves either side of it could not be less alike. Below, a solid teardrop of clear resin stands point up: bulbous and heavy where it meets the floor, drawing to a narrow neck, and read through rather than at. Above, a matt black stem widens into a wide flat disc, opaque, unornamented, and oversailing the teardrop the whole way round so its shadow falls across the clear form beneath. One element gathers light and the other refuses it. The disc is also what makes the piece usable, since a teardrop alone offers nowhere to put anything down.

At 50cm the black disc comes level with the arm of a chair, ready for a lamp or a drink. The black disc hides marks that a clear top would show. The teardrop beneath needs light passing through it to be read at all; against a dark wall it becomes a silhouette and the piece loses half its interest. It is heavy at the base, which makes it stable but awkward to lift. For indoor use.

The Teardrop, the Disc, and the Wait

A standard piece takes 3–4 weeks to make, and a bespoke commission 5–6. Most of it is the teardrop base. Three choices are open. The disc is offered in other finishes and in a pale stone instead of black, the teardrop can be tinted, and the collar height between them is adjustable. The top diameter is open. The top diameter is yours to name, and so is the overall height. Ask for several together if the shape the teardrop takes needs to agree between them. In transit the wide black disc and the teardrop point must be boxed away from the sides; two people to set it down. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

The black disc and stem are finished fibreglass, which places the teardrop table in our fibreglass sculptures; holding a lamp beside a chair it is working furniture for our art furniture, and matt black meeting clear resin suits our contemporary and modern sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
