Clear Striped Heartwood Log Resin Sculpture, 45cm, encasing a wood block with olive, gold and near-black grain bands and bark edges, set against a plain white background.
Clear Striped Heartwood Log Resin Sculpture - 45cm $4,32000
Description

The timber in this block is strongly figured: the heartwood runs in distinct vertical bands of olive, gold and near-black rather than a single tone, with two rough black bark edges closing the face at each side. The top carries a full disc of end grain, with the same banding running through it in section.

Heartwood Striped Olive, Gold and Near-Black

Figured timber like this is not common and it is the whole reason for this block. The stripes are the timber's own, running the full height of the log without breaking, and they vary in width so the face reads as a natural pattern rather than as a veneer. Olive and near-black bands sit next to gold ones with no gradual transition between them, which is what makes the face legible from across a room where a plain brown log would read as a single mass. Because the banding continues into the end grain, the top face shows the same pattern turned through ninety degrees.

At 45cm the block sits very steady, and the flat top is broad enough for a lamp and a book together. The strongly figured face means it wants to be seen, so it earns a position out in a room, at the end of a sofa or beside a chair, rather than half hidden against furniture. It holds its own against a patterned rug or a papered wall, because the timber already carries a pattern of its own. It is heavy and stays put once sited. Indoor use only.

Figured Timber, and Ordering More Than One

Build times separate standard from bespoke: 3–4 weeks against 5–6. Figure cannot be specified, only selected, and that is the practical point about this piece. The banding is a property of the particular log, so a second block ordered later will be figured but not figured the same way, and the two will read as a pair of related pieces rather than as a matched set. Where a genuine pair or a run of three is wanted, they are cut in sequence from one log and ordered together; asked for separately, they cannot be matched. A plainer heartwood is available for less where the figure is not the point, and a darker species reads quieter in a room that already has pattern in it. Dimensions are altered to order. The crate stands it on its base, and its broad square foot sits flat on an ordinary floor, needing no pad on boards or stone. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Striped heartwood with black bark edges has its natural home in our organic sculptures; the cast block counts among our resin sculptures, and the clean cube among our abstract sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
