Clear Split-End Bark Log Resin Sculpture, 40cm, by Giant Sculptures, showing black bark flanks around a sawn brown heartwood face with visible end grain, on a plain white background.
Clear Split-End Bark Log Resin Sculpture - 40cm $4,32000
Description

A log section stands the full height of this colourless resin block with its bark left on: rough black bark runs down both flanks, and between them the log is sawn open to a dark brown heartwood face, edged in pale sapwood and marked by a single knot. The end grain lies level with the top face, its growth rings crossed by one radial split.

Black Bark Flanks Around a Sawn Heartwood Face

The log keeps its bark, and the bark is what frames it: coarse, silvery black and broken into ridges, it runs down both sides of the face so the block reads in bands, dark at the edges and warm in the middle. The sawn face shows the heartwood at its richest, a deep brown with a straight grain, and a narrow line of pale sapwood separates it from the bark on each side. A single knot sits in the heartwood like an eye, and because the grain around it is plain it carries from across a room. The top is polished level, with the rings running out to the split, so a glass stands square anywhere on it.

At 40cm it works beside a chair, at a bed head or in a hall, and the flat level top makes it usable rather than only decorative. Its dark bark edges give it a strong outline, so it reads best against a pale wall, where the banding shows at full strength. It suits oak, wool and pale plaster. It is heavy for its footprint and is not a piece to move about. Indoor use only.

Choosing a Trunk, and the Split That Comes With It

Reckon on 3–4 weeks for a standard piece, or 5–6 weeks for a bespoke one. The radial split running out from the centre of the end grain is not a fault and it is not avoidable: a trunk section of this diameter opens along one radius as it dries. It is part of what you are buying, and it is why this piece looks like timber and not like a turned dowel. What can be specified is the trunk: a wider section for more timber and less resin at the corners, a narrower one for a clear margin all the way round, and a paler or darker species. Other heights and proportions are made on request. Two people crate it standing and set it down in one movement, handling it on the resin corners and never on the bark. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Timber kept in its bark is gathered in our organic sculptures, colourless castings like this one in our resin sculptures, and other hard-edged blocks in our abstract sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
