In this cast resin sculpture water bursts up out of an open book, the pages holding flat while the splash rises high above them. The book stands open on its spine, its covers glossy black with roughened edges and its pages a pale, frosted white, with no lettering anywhere, and everything expressive happens above it: the clear water breaks into four flat, tapering blades of different heights and, at one side, a curl pierced with oval openings. A thin stream of clear water runs down the gutter into a rough black foot beneath the spine.
The book is the still half of this piece and the water the moving half, and the contrast between them is what the design is built on. The black covers and the flat, pale pages read at once as a book and then step back, while the water does the opposite: it bursts out of the gutter, spreads over the pages on both sides, and climbs in flat blades that taper to points, one side of it curling over into a lace of oval openings that ends in a hook. Letting the splash run over both pages rather than stopping at the gutter keeps the two halves joined, and the thin clear stream running back down the spine into the black foot finishes that join underneath.
It has to be met from the front, straight on, or the book reads as a wedge and the pages disappear. A study desk, a library shelf, a console in a hall or a low cabinet all work, set square to the approach. Its obvious home is a room with books in it. Light from in front and above keeps the pages legible as pages; light from behind turns the water into a bright mass and the book, which is the quieter half, is the half that loses.
Order a standard piece and it takes 3–4 weeks; order it bespoke and it takes 5–6. The book can be made closed with the splash breaking over its cover, or opened wider so that more of the pages show. The height of the splash and the number of spires are set at order, and the water can take a tint while the book keeps its black covers and pale pages. It travels braced in a single case with every spire faced; lift it by the book and never by the water. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.
Water bursting out of an open book is organic sculpture with a subject, resin sculpture in the making of it, and a study or a library piece, so indoor sculpture.

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.
Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.
Production time is separate from delivery time.
Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.
Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.
All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.
Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.
For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.
Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.
For all orders delivered worldwide, all customs duties, import taxes, and applicable local clearance fees are fully included in the purchase price. We manage and settle these charges on your behalf, ensuring you will not incur any additional fees upon arrival.
Please note that this policy excludes shipments delivered to Switzerland, as well as any individual orders where an exclusion is explicitly stated prior to purchase; in such instances, local customs charges and import taxes remain the responsibility of the customer.
If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.
Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.
To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.
Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:
Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
If you have questions about shipping, customs, delivery timing, or anything else before you order, our team is here to help. Contact us via WhatsApp, email, or phone, and we'll respond within 24 hours.
