Clear Set Wave Cast Resin Column Side Table, 55cm, by Giant Sculptures, a cylindrical clear resin table with a sculpted breaking wave inside, shown on a plain white background.
Clear Set Wave Cast Resin Column Side Table - 55cm $4,45500
Description

In this side table a breaking wave is held inside a solid cylinder of clear resin, its crest turning over and the spray flying behind it, so the water is read through the material from any side rather than being modelled on its surface. The top is cut flat across and polished.

A Breaking Wave Held Inside the Material

The wave is modelled into the mould in two halves and the material is brought up around it, so the crest and the spray sit in the thickness rather than against a face, and they are read from any side. Holding a cylinder this deep clear is the difficulty: the material has to come up without a single bubble, because one would sit in the wave like a fault in glass. The outside is polished from a coarse grade to a mirror and the cut top is worked flat last, its arris left true rather than eased so the flat reads as a deliberate cut.

At 55cm it sits at the arm of a sofa or by a reading chair, and its flat top takes a lamp or a glass. The wave needs light passing through the cylinder to be read at all: against a dark wall the whole piece closes to a silhouette and the water disappears. A cylinder this solid does not move again once it is down, so the position wants settling first.

The Wave, the Cut Top, and the Wait

Give it 3–4 weeks as a standard piece, or 5–6 weeks as a bespoke commission. The held wave is the slow part. Whatever else is fixed, three things are not. The wave is drawn to order and can be set higher or turned to face another way, the cylinder is offered tinted, and a second wave can be held behind the first. The column diameter and the column height are whatever you specify. Put the whole order in at once and the break of the wave carries across every piece. It ships with the cut top and the cylinder wall protected, and the crate is packed so nothing rests on the flat. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A breaking wave held inside a clear cylinder belongs with our organic sculptures; holding a lamp at a sofa's end, it is filed with our art furniture, the solid casting in our resin sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
