A colourless cast resin pedestal dish with butterflies set into its rim. The top is a square tray, shallow in the middle and carried on a thick chamfered rim that is as deep again as the tray itself. It stands on a waisted cylindrical pedestal. They hang at different depths with their wings open, in pale yellow-green tipped with orange-brown, in plain orange, and barred in black, brown and white.
The tray is shallow and the rim beneath it is as deep again, and that thick rim is where the butterflies sit. They sit at several depths with their wings spread, in yellow-green, orange and barred dark tones, and because the material around them has no colour of its own they are the only fixed colour anywhere in the object. Everything else the piece shows is borrowed: stood on grass it goes green, on a dark surface it nearly disappears, and against a window it reads as an outline. The wings can be read from the side as well as from above, which is unusual and is what the depth of the rim allows.
At 48cm the dish rises to about the height of a hall table, and it asks to be approached. The set wings are small, so the piece needs to be within a couple of paces for them to read at all, and it should stand where light comes from the side or from behind to pass through the rim. The shallow tray will hold keys or a small dish. On a dark surface the whole object goes almost invisible except for the butterflies, which is the strongest way to use it. Indoors only.
Expect 3–4 weeks for a standard piece and 5–6 weeks where the commission is bespoke. What sits in the rim is what sets the pace: the studio will not hurry a piece whose contents it cannot repeat. Three things are settled at order. What goes in, from these butterflies through to moths, leaf or nothing at all, which leaves a plain water clear dish. The depth of the tray, from this shallow dish to a deeper basin that will hold water. And the pedestal, which can be this waist or a plain straight column. Top size and overall height are each specified. Top and pedestal travel apart in one crate and go together on site. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.
A dish with butterflies caught in its clear rim belongs among our abstract sculptures; the insects bring it into our organic sculptures, and the glass-clear casting into our resin sculptures.

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.
Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.
Production time is separate from delivery time.
Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.
Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.
All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.
Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.
For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.
Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.
For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.
If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.
Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.
To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.
Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:
Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
If you have questions about shipping, customs, delivery timing, or anything else before you order, our team is here to help. Contact us via WhatsApp, email, or phone, and we'll respond within 24 hours.
