Clear Ripple Disc & Steel Column Resin Sculpture, 170cm, with concentric-ringed clear resin disc atop a mirror-polished steel column, on a plain white background.
Clear Ripple Disc & Steel Column Resin Sculpture - 170cm $6,33900
Description

A colourless disc of clear resin cut on its face with concentric rings that tighten toward the centre, in the way rings spread from a point on still water. A column of mirror-polished stainless steel carries it and comes with it, making it a floor object rather than a surface one.

No Two Rings Show the Same Thing

Each ring is a curved face on a body you can see through, and none of them shows you the same thing. Stand in front of the piece and the room behind arrives through every ring at its own size, so the background is taken apart into bands and put back together slightly wrong. Walk past and the bands turn with you. That is the reason the rings are cut deep and spaced unevenly, tighter at the middle and opening toward the rim: even spacing gives a regular pattern the eye dismisses as decoration, while uneven spacing keeps it reading as something happening. The column is mirror-polished for the same argument, so it disappears into whatever is around it and nothing visible is holding the disc up.

At 170cm it is a floor object met at eye level, which is the height the rings are drawn for. It needs something worth looking at behind it, because the whole piece is a device for altering what is there: a window, a run of a room, a lit wall at some distance. Put it in front of a blank wall a foot away and it has nothing to work with. Leave the floor around it clear and keep the approach open for a few paces, since the effect builds as you walk toward it.

The Column, the Cut, and Delivery

Expect 3–4 weeks for a standard piece and 5–6 weeks where the commission is bespoke. The ring spacing is redrawn, the disc is cut at other diameters, and the column is cut down for a plinth or run up for a double-height room. A brushed column is offered in place of the mirror one and changes the piece considerably, since a brushed surface stays visible and the disc then reads as mounted rather than floating. A tinted disc is also made. It travels in two crates, the column braced along its length and the disc bedded on its face, and two people handle each. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A mirror column belongs with our stainless steel sculptures; rings spreading out from a dropped stone sit among our organic sculptures, and a disc held at eye level joins our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
