Clear Ribbed Curling Wave Cast Resin Sculpture (144cm) in ribbed clear resin on a clear block base, shown against a plain white background.
Clear Ribbed Curling Wave Cast Resin Sculpture - 144cm $6,72900
Description

A clear wave curled back on itself in cast resin, this sculpture has its entire surface worked into close flowing ribs that follow the curve rather than cut across it. The ribs are shallow and irregular, swelling and thinning like streaks in running water, but close enough together to read as a texture from across a room and as separate lines from arm's length. The block it stands on is colourless as well, so the wave appears to be standing on nothing much at all.

Ribs That Follow the Curve, Not Across It

A rib that follows a curve has to bend with it the whole way along, and here every one does: the ribs climb the body of the wave, swing round where it turns back on itself and fan out into the tongue at the top and the fingered tail at the foot. None of them is ruled or repeated. Each one widens, narrows and merges with its neighbours, so the curl reads as water caught in motion rather than as a patterned surface. The resin is colourless throughout, which leaves every rib to be drawn by light alone, and the open hollow of the curl is ribbed as fully as its outer edge.

The ribs only show when a light is set low to one side of it, so it wants a single strong source rather than an evenly lit room. Under flat general light the whole surface goes to one grey and the piece reads as a plain curl of material. One lamp off to the side, low down, and every rib picks up a line of its own. It is worth turning the piece so the curl opens away from that lamp rather than towards it, because the inside of the curve then fills with reflected light and the two faces separate. At 144cm on its block it is meant for the floor, in a hall, on a landing or at a turn of the stair, and anywhere it can be given one deliberate source will suit it better than a bright room.

Worked Round the Inside as Well, and Delivery

Bespoke commissions take 5–6 weeks; standard pieces take 3–4. The ribbing runs unbroken over every face including the inside of the curl. The rib pitch is set at order, a smoke grey is available in place of the colourless casting, and the block comes in acrylic or in stone. The height of the block is set at order as well, and the curl is drawn tighter or opened out to suit the position. The block travels separately and the wave is bedded onto it on site, which is the only assembly there is: both are faced and crated together, and the wave is handled by its heavy foot. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

The block under it is acrylic sculpture; the ribbed curl above is organic sculpture; and ribs that only show in raking light are indoor sculpture.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For all orders delivered worldwide, all customs duties, import taxes, and applicable local clearance fees are fully included in the purchase price. We manage and settle these charges on your behalf, ensuring you will not incur any additional fees upon arrival.

Please note that this policy excludes shipments delivered to Switzerland, as well as any individual orders where an exclusion is explicitly stated prior to purchase; in such instances, local customs charges and import taxes remain the responsibility of the customer.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
