Clear Reclining Torso Cast Resin Sculpture - 28cm, an abstract clear resin form with jagged, faceted planes, shown against a plain light grey background.
Clear Reclining Torso Cast Resin Sculpture - 28cm $1,41700
Description

This cast resin sculpture is a torso lying down rather than standing. It is wider than it is tall, with one shoulder lifted off the surface and the chest turned upward, so the body reads as reclining rather than fallen. The planes follow that direction: they are long and shallow along the length instead of short and steep, and the resin is left colourless so the whole piece is read as light running along those faces.

A Torso Lying Rather Than Standing

A horizontal figure has to decide what it rests on, and at this scale the answer is two points rather than a base. The hip and the far shoulder carry it, and both are ground on one plane so the piece sits without rocking while still reading as though it were lifted at one end. Long shallow planes are harder to keep true than short steep ones, because any wander in a face shows along its whole length; each is flatted against a reference and then polished in one direction. The lifted shoulder is the last thing cut, so its angle can be judged against the finished body.

At 28cm, a reclining piece wants a horizontal surface it can occupy rather than sit in the middle of: the length of a mantel, a run of shelf, the end of a console, a wide windowsill. Put it where an upright piece would look crowded, because it takes width instead of height. Light along the surface it lies on rakes the long planes; light from directly above loses them. A dark surface underneath gives it an edge.

Plane Length, Tint and Where a Horizontal Piece Goes

From order, a standard piece runs to 3–4 weeks and a bespoke commission to 5–6. Plane length is set at order, from these long shallow faces to a stubbier coarser cut, and the lift of the shoulder is open. The body will take a green, a smoke, a pale blue or an amber, and gold, silver or copper leaf is a further choice. Scale is cut to order. Where several are ordered they are poured in one batch. It arrives boxed and sleeved, needs one person, and rests directly on a surface. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A torso lying with one shoulder lifted belongs with our classic sculptures; long shallow planes running its length lead to our abstract sculptures, and light along colourless faces joins our resin sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
