Clear Poured Mass Acrylic Lounge Armchair - 89cm
Clear Poured Mass Acrylic Lounge Armchair - 89cm $4,45200
Description

This acrylic armchair is one cast colourless mass with nothing square about it anywhere. A shoulder rises at the back and falls away to each side, where the material swells into a heavy roll that stands in for an arm. Between the two the seat is dished, deep enough to hold a sitter well down inside the form. The whole chair reads as a piece of something poured and then opened, rather than as a chair assembled from parts.

A Seat Found Inside a Poured Colourless Mass

Casting a form this thick and keeping it clear are opposing requirements, and the compromise is where the skill lies. Thick colourless acrylic collects any internal flaw and magnifies it, so the mass has to be brought up without trapping anything, and the surface then has to be worked to a polish over compound curves that no flat tool will reach. Every one of those curves is read through the body as well as on it: the roll at one arm is visible through the seat from the other side, which means a blemish anywhere shows from most angles. The dished seat is worked last, and its depth is set by hand against the shoulder height rather than to a figure. No two chairs open the same, because a poured mass finds its own outline.

A colourless mass takes its colour from what it stands on, so this chair is worth placing over something worth reading through it: a boarded floor, a rug with a figure in it, a stone slab. It suits a room with space around it and looks constrained in a tight corner, because the form is meant to be walked round. It reads as sculpture when it is empty, so it can hold a bay or the end of a long room on its own. Put a light behind rather than above it and the whole body carries the light.

Clarity Grade, Seat Depth and a Single-Piece Delivery

Plan for 3–4 weeks on a standard piece and 5–6 weeks on a bespoke commission. The clarity grade can be raised, which reduces the internal haze at depth and shows more of the far side of the chair through the near side. A tint can be introduced into the pour, and a frosted surface is available where less transparency is wanted. Seat depth is adjustable at the modelling stage, as is the height of the shoulder. The chair is cast in one piece and cannot be broken down for delivery, so the route in should be measured first: it will not tilt through a turn without the arms fouling. Two people are wanted, taking it under the arms rather than at the shoulder. It travels sleeved and crated with the arms packed separately from the shell. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A seat found inside a poured clear mass belongs with our acrylic sculptures; rolls that stand in for arms lead to our organic sculptures, and a chair that holds a bay on its own joins our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
