This resin wave is drawn as one open crescent. At one end of a broken trough a lesser splash throws up its own fingers; from the other end a single arm of water climbs, sweeps up and back over and ends high above that splash in one long, tapering point, with a short tongue and a small fin breaking away from it at the top of the arc. It is clear and colourless from end to end.
The composition is almost a single line, and at this size that line has to be right. The arm thickens where it leaves the trough and tapers steadily towards its tip, so it looks as if the water is running out of force as it climbs, and the curve is kept even all the way round, with no flat spots. The broken trough and its lesser splash sit beneath the tip, a knot of turbulence against which the long arc reads calmer still. Nothing crosses the opening, so the crescent frames whatever is behind it.
Scale decides where it goes: a lobby, a gallery, an atrium or the far wall of a big room, with space in front for people to stand back. Place it so the open side of the crescent faces the main approach, which lets the arc frame a view, a doorway or a window. Clear resin needs contrast, so a darker wall or planting behind it helps. It carries across a long distance and needs nothing beside it.
From order, a standard piece runs to 3–4 weeks and a bespoke commission to 5–6. The crescent can be made at another scale, and colour can be run into the trough so that it clears as the arm rises, blue, green or amber. Colour at the foot anchors the arc and makes its clear tip look lighter. Because of its size it is crated upright in a frame that holds the arm still, and the way in to the room needs measuring against the crate before it travels. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.
One arm of clear water arcing back over its broken trough is grouped with our organic sculptures, our resin sculptures and our indoor sculptures.
