Description

This low wedge of high-clarity resin rises from a rounded tip on the right, along one long diagonal, to a squared end on the left with an almost flat top. Its faces are rippled all over with wavy ridges, as if a stream had frozen mid-flow. Small insects are held at different points inside, strung out in a loose line from the high end down towards the tip. They have russet-red heads, fine thread-like antennae and slender jointed legs, and one carries pale buff wings. A plain black base comes with it.

Small Insects Caught in a Frozen Stream

The ripples run in long, uneven waves across both broad faces, so the insects are glimpsed through a surface that seems to stir as you shift your position. Their colouring is warm and natural: rust-red heads and legs, tan and brown bodies banded with darker rings, and wings of a pale, papery buff. Each insect sits on its own with clear resin all round it, which makes it easy to study up close. The black base is a plain rectangle with a smooth satin finish, deeper from front to back than the rock, which stands back from its front edge.

Small enough to share a bookshelf with a row of books, or to stand at the corner of a desk, it rewards a close look, so it belongs in a study, a reading corner or on a hall table by the door, wherever people stop and lean in. Daylight from a window beside it picks out the russet heads, and a pale wall keeps the edge of the black base crisp. Indoor use only.

Choosing the Specimens, Then Delivery

From order, a standard piece runs to 3–4 weeks and a bespoke commission to 5–6. This is sold as a single rock with its black base, and the price covers exactly that. As a bespoke piece it can hold more insects or fewer, one insect alone at the centre, or dried leaves and seed heads instead, while the base can be made in timber rather than black and the whole piece can be drawn up at another size. Rock and base arrive nested together in a fitted box lined with foam, ready for a shelf as soon as the wrapping comes off. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
