Clear Ice-Textured Resin Column with Gilt Pavilion, 180cm, featuring a faceted ice-like shaft with gold flecks topped by a gilded two-tier pavilion, shown on a plain white background.
Clear Ice-Textured Resin Column with Gilt Pavilion - 180cm $8,10000
Description

The column is square in plan and stands well above head height. Its four faces are worked to a surface like cracked ice, irregular and faceted rather than smooth, with flakes of gold caught among the facets. At the top, on a flat gilded cap, sits a small pavilion in gilded metal with two tiers of upturned roof and open sides. The shaft carries almost all of the height and the pavilion sits on it like a finial.

A Cracked-Ice Surface Held Inside a Square Shaft

A cracked-ice surface is the opposite of a polish and harder to keep consistent. Every facet catches light differently, so a patch worked more finely than its neighbours reads as a smudge from across a room even though nothing is wrong with it, and the four faces have to arrive at the same coarseness over their whole length. The arrises are the other constraint: on a shaft this slender the four vertical edges are the only straight lines the eye has, so they are dressed true and left crisp while the faces stay rough, which is two finishes meeting on one edge. The pavilion is a separate object in gilded metal, made and gilded on its own and seated on the cap, which is what lets its roof be cut and turned properly rather than approximated.

This is a floor piece for a hall, a stair well or an entrance, and it wants to be seen from a distance as well as passed: the pavilion is above eye level and reads as a silhouette, while the ice surface only shows when you are close. Give it light from the side or from behind. A wall light raking down the shaft finds every facet; a ceiling spot lands on the pavilion and leaves the column grey. A pair either side of an opening is the traditional arrangement and this price is for a single column.

Pavilion, Column Height and Getting It Upright

A standard piece takes 3–4 weeks to make, and a bespoke commission 5–6. Other heights are cut to order. The pavilion is offered in gold, silver or an antique bronze finish, and a plain gilded cap with no pavilion is made where the architecture is not wanted. The shaft is available smooth and polished instead of ice-textured, and the gold flecks can be left out. A round shaft is made as an alternative to the square. Column and pavilion are crated together and laid flat, packed clear of each other, and they seat by hand. Standing the column up wants two people and a level floor. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

An ice-textured column under a gilt pavilion belongs with our contemporary and modern sculptures; gold flecks among cracked-ice facets lead to our resin sculptures, and a lofty shaft for a stair well joins our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
