Clear Hooded Fold Resin Sculpture - 100cm by Giant Sculptures, a twisting translucent form curling into a hooded fold on a round black marble base, shown against a plain light grey background.
Clear Hooded Fold Resin Sculpture - 100cm $4,18500
Description

A swelling body rising and folding over at the crown into a hood that curls back on itself, leaving a pocket of shadow beneath the fold. Colourless throughout, so the hood reads only by the shadow it keeps inside itself. The hood leans out past the body on one side. A round foot of black marble is included beneath it.

A Hood That Keeps Its Own Shadow

In a colourless body the only thing that can read as dark is a shadow the object keeps for itself, so the hood is curled far enough to trap one. Open it out and the piece loses the one dark note it has, and what is left is an outline with nothing inside it to hold the eye at all. The mass is what makes the hood work: a body this thick holds a shadow under the fold that a thin one would let straight through. Polished over the body and inside the hood, which is where the surface does most of its work.

It wants a hall table or a sideboard, with the hood at or just above the eye. What is behind it should be dark, so that a colourless body has an outline at all. One source to the side fills the hood and leaves the body clear; that contrast is the whole design. It is an outline at a distance, and the shadow under the hood is what holds the eye once it arrives.

Curling the Hood Further, and Two Parts Married

Delivery follows a 3–4 week build as standard, or a 5–6 week build if bespoke. On request the hood is curled further over, a tint is run through the body, or the base is cut square. Curl the hood further over and the body beneath is drawn fuller, because the shadow it keeps has to have something to fall on. Casting and base travel in one crate and are put together where the piece will stand. Two people, hands on the body rather than the hood. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A clear body that curls into a hood at the crown leads to our organic sculptures; the shadow kept under its fold joins our resin sculptures, and a hall in which the hood meets the eye shows it best in our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
