Clear Hollow Cast Dome Resin Sculpture (70cm) by Giant Sculptures, a hollow arched form with a dimpled surface, shown on a plain white background.
Clear Hollow Cast Dome Resin Sculpture - 70cm $4,52400
Description

A colourless dome, hollow inside, with a thin wall that follows every swell of its surface. The surface swells and dimples rather than running true, and the form is open right along the ground so the inside is seen from below. It needs no base and none is included, since the rim of the dome is its whole footprint.

An Even Wall Is What Keeps a Dome a Dome

The dimples and swells on this dome are not a texture applied to it. They are what a hollow curve of this size does on its own, and the whole craft of the object is deciding how much of it to allow rather than how to put it there. Hold the wall perfectly even and you get a machine-smooth dome with nothing to look at. Let it run and the form collapses out of true. The wall is held at the thickness that leaves the swelling readable and the dome still a dome.

At 70cm and open underneath, it wants a broad surface it can be looked along rather than down into: a hearth, a deep sill or a plinth at knee height. Light from one side runs across the swells and makes the surface read; light from directly above puts a bright cap on it and loses everything below that. Because the inside is visible along the ground, what it stands on is seen through it, so a plain pale surface is worth more here than a figured one.

The Wall, the Surface, and Delivery

Reckon on 3–4 weeks for a standard piece, or 5–6 weeks for a bespoke one. The wall is cast heavier for a quieter surface or lighter for a more restless one, the dome is drawn deeper or flatter, and a tint is run through the body. A frosted finish is offered and makes the swelling far more legible, since a clear dome shows it only where the light catches. It is also cast at other diameters. It is a large hollow casting and it travels in one crate seated on a cut ring with the crown free of the packing, and two people lift it. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A dome with nothing inside it is organic sculpture; the clear shell is resin sculpture; and a mass this size needs indoor sculpture floor.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
