This dog is low and moving. The shoulders are up, the back dips behind them, and the head is carried down and pushed out in front of the front feet, so the head and the weight behind it hang out past the animal's own base. The face is broad and wrinkled and the mouth is set. Both halves of the object hold the same gold leaf, the animal sparsely and the clear block beneath it packed with it.
A head that hangs out in front of the feet decides where the block goes. The animal is not centred on it: the front edge of the block has to come forward under the chest or the piece looks about to tip, and how far forward is judged with both parts finished and standing rather than calculated. Set too far and the block reads as a shelf; set too little and the head has nothing under it. The face is the other exacting passage, because on this animal it is the lowest thing on the piece and the least well lit. Its folds are therefore cut deeper than they would be on an upright head - enough to hold a shadow from a light that is coming from above and behind, which is where a room's light usually is.
Because the face is low, this wants a surface below eye level rather than at it: a low chest, a hearth, a coffee table, a bottom shelf. From standing height you look at the back and the shoulders, which is a handsome view and not the one the piece was cut for. Put a lamp low beside it if you can. Nothing else needs to sit in front of it; the space the head is pushing into is part of the composition and a book or a bowl there kills it.
Figure the difference between standard and bespoke at 3–4 weeks against 5–6. A tint of amber or grey runs through the animal, and a frosted body is made where the polish is too bright. Leaf can be held in the block alone, in the animal alone, or in both, and silver and copper are made as well as gold. A pale stone, a white marble or a near-black tint can take the place of the clear block, and the animal is sold without one. The standing and the sitting dogs are made to this same scale, and a bare version at twice the size is a separate piece. Any scale is cut to order. One box holds it, sleeved, with nothing to put together. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.
A dog carrying its head low past its feet belongs with our animal sculptures; raised shoulders over a dipping back lead to our figurative sculptures, and a block packed with leaf joins our resin sculptures.

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.
Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.
Production time is separate from delivery time.
Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.
Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.
All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.
Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.
For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.
Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.
For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.
If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.
Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.
To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.
Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:
Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
If you have questions about shipping, customs, delivery timing, or anything else before you order, our team is here to help. Contact us via WhatsApp, email, or phone, and we'll respond within 24 hours.
